STATE OF THE ARC MEME
State of the ARC is a monthly meme at Avalinah’s Books meant to motivate you to finish up all your long overdue ARCs(Advanced or Early Reader Copies). You can track your reading progress and link up with your own post. Most commonly it comes out on the 30th of every month.
Hello and welcome to another State of the ARC meme! This is my 6th time participating and I’m glad to say that by joining along in this monthly meme, my feedback ratio on Netgalley has slowly but surely gone up!
My goal for July, ARC wise, was to read at least 6 Advanced Reader Copies. Doing so would have made my feedback ratio percentage on NetGalley rise to 60(ish)%. Last month I didn’t request any books, which helped me raise my percentage a bit!
Another goal I wanted to have this month, was to have less DNF’d books than the ones I finished. Enough dilly-dallying though, let’s get into it!
The ARC’s I received this month were:
- Harbinger by Emme DeWitt; What interests me the most about Harbringer is that the main character is a banshee. I’m actually seriously intrigued and a little frightened by the cover for Harbinger. I wonder what will happen! (This one was a READ NOW)
- The Shadow Minds Journal by Kia Carrington-Russell; There were mentionings of shadow-beings in the books’ synopsis, so obviously I had to download it!! (This one was a read now)
- Era of Undying by Emilie Knight; The author approached me and since the synopsis is so interesting I thought I’d give this one a go! I’m actually pretty excited about Era of Undying.
- Seventh Born by Monica Sanz; I’m extremely curious about Seventh Born because the title is something I’ve actually always been curious about ever since I watched a movie as a young’n. The seventh child of a seventh child in my mind, always holds some sort of power. Hopefully that’s the case with Seventh Born!
ARC’s I Did Not Finish this month were:
- Has to Be Love by Jolene Perry; I DNF’d at 23% but I am no longer wanting to read this book. I’m totally not in the mood to read a story where a high school girl falls for her high school student-teacher. I don’t care that he’s only 4 years older than her. That trope is so….overused in YA fiction.
- Last Light Falling: The Covenant by J.E. Plemons; I ended up DNF’ing LLF because unfortunately the story was too heavenly influenced by Christian religion for me to enjoy it. If the religion was dialled down a bit and let the story be the story I feel like I would have gone on further than the 42% of the book I read.
Advanced Reader Copies I read this July were:
- Annie on My Mind by Nancy Gardner; I was, overall, really disappointed with Liza’s story. Even though we had the full story….it feels incomplete. (my review)
- City In Embers (Collectors, #1) by Stacey Marie Brown; I had wanted to like City In Embers prior to reading, but I was kind of intimidated by the cover, and I guess I got my hopes up. So I pushed City In Embers aside for a while. I’m happy that I ended up genuienly enjoying Zoey’s story. (my review)
- Hide Me (Silver Strand #1) by Lexi Scott; Another oldie over and done with. Ahh. I actually enjoyed Hide Me more than I thought I would, so that’s great. (my review)
- Era of Undying by Emilie Knight; I ended up loving Era of Undying. Which I am extremely happy about! (my review of Era of Undying will be out August 13th!)
There were more books I had wanted to read this month, but I guess I fell into a “I must avoid reading, even though I want to read” trap. And actually, that was because I was kind of intimidated by Last Light Falling prior to actually starting the book. And for that, I avoided reading any books. Which is really weird to me? Like I didn’t have to read Last Light Falling. I could’ve moved on to another book and just kept LLF on the side lines… I must learn from my ways!! This has already happened a few times this year!
I am extremely happy with the book count this month. Though I (happily) received 4 books, I ended up reading 6 ARCs this month. And even though I marked two of those books as Did Not Finish, I’m pretty happy with my overall ARC-reading.
I don’t know what my reading for August will look like, because I have family coming out for two weeks. So I might be incredibly busy. Or I might not be, and I end up reading a few books.
Nevertheless! I hope to read at least 3 ARCs in August. I don’t know what they’ll be yet, but hopefully I’ll enjoy them!
Lastly, I end July with a feedback ratio of 60%! I’m pretty happy about that, since having a feedback ratio in the 60% mark was one of my goals for July.
Did you read or receive any ARC’s this month?
Thank you so much for stopping by!
I hope you have a lovely day!
Happy Reading!
— Adele

Sorry for not visiting so long – vacation! And lol yes, I have also fallen into the “must about reading despite wanting to” trap more than once xD I can’t believe how it usually backfires 😀
