March 2019 Wrap Up

Hello friends! Todays post is my March Wrap Up.

Doesn’t it seem like it was yesterday when I did my February Wrap Up?

My To Be Read list for March didn’t include anything special — or anything at all. Last month I had a set TBR and I was so unhappy with it. I am a mood reader to the core, so when I set reading goals for myself… I end up stressing myself out to the point where I can’t, or won’t finish the TBR list I had set for myself.

For March though, my reading goals were to just have fun reading. Which, honestly, should be a monthly reading goal for the rest of my life.

Here’s what happened in March.

Hello friends! Today I have my review of
The Pain Eater by Beth Goobie.

Trigger Warning: Rape, Assault, Self-Harm, Bullying, PTSD, Panic Attacks

She hadn’t told anyone. Not a single soul. Not one word about that night and what had been done to her had ever passed Maddy Malone’s lips. She’d thought about it at first – had been desperate, even frantic, to tell. But then had come the shame, and the intimidation from the boys who raped her – and the one who held her down.

Now it’s the beginning of a new school year and Maddy is hoping that she can continue to hide, making herself as quiet and small as possible. She is consumed with keeping the memories at bay, forcing them down through small cuts and the burn from the end of a cigarette. But when her English class is given the assignment of writing a collaborative novel about a fifteen-year-old girl, The Pain Eater, fact and fiction begin to meet up. When the boys spread rumors about Maddy, she realizes that continuing to hide the truth will only give them more control, and she slowly gains the courage to confront them.

The first thing I would say about The Pain Eater is that if you have a Rape Trigger, I suggest to not read this book. There are multiple scenes where Maddy relives her rape, and her rape is talked about quite frequently throughout the novel. As is the PTSD that Maddy endures afterwards.

And please note that I have never been attacked like our main character, Maddy has. My review is simply what I thought of the story and how everything played out.

Library Reads #42

Hello friends! Today I’m talking a little about the books I’ve borrowed recently from the library.

Library Reads: I’m a huge fan of libraries. I tend to visit the library quite often, and I even come across great finds. These Library Reads posts are where I write a tad about the books I’ve borrowed.

In this post I’ll write about what books I borrowed, and what I think of the books before I actually start reading them. Whether what I say is a sentence or a few sentences long, here I catalogue the books I’ve borrowed. — From doing these posts I hope to spread a little love for libraries and the stories they can give us.

Without a further-ado, here are the books I borrowed in late January / early February!

February 2019 Wrap Up & MAJOR Book Haul

Hello friends, and Welcome to my February 2019 Wrap Up!

I managed to read more than I thought I would, but not as much as I had wanted to. That’s 100% OK though, since life and such things can get in the way. Which, this month, it did.

I also acquired a lot of books in February. I don’t even know if I’ll be able to get around to reading them all or not, but I’ll have fun trying!

Onto my February To-Be-Read list though… My February TBR was a grand total of 4 books. I personally find that if I aim to read one a book a week, I’m more eager to read more than what I limit to what my TBR list includes.

The books I had on my TBR were actually four ARCs that I have. I managed to read two of the four, which is great. If I got around to completing those 4 books, I would’ve moved onto reading Wayfarer (Passenger, #2) by Alexandra Bracken, The Wicked King (The Folk of the Air, #2) by Holly Black, and finally, These Rebel Waves (Stream Raiders ,#1) by Sara Raasch.

Hello lovelies! Just a little update on my life: My cat, Jewels, is starting to shed his winter fur, so that means spring is just around the corner! And the snow is back with a vengeance! Enough about my cat and snow, though. Let’s talk about books!
