That Wolf-Boy is Mine! by Yoko Nogiri | Manga Review

Hello friends! Today’s Manga Review post is a little different because I’m not just reviewing one volume of a manga. I’m reviewing the entirety of That Wolf-Boy is Mine! by Yoko Nogiri, in one go.

MONSTER MISCHIEF After some traumatic experiences, Komugi Kusunoki transferred from the city to start a new life in rural Hokkaido. But on her first day of school, the school heartthrob Yū Ōgami blurts out, “You smell good!” Despite the hijinks, Komugi tries to adjust to her new school, but it’s not long before she stumbles across Yū dozing off under a tree. When she attempts to wake him up, he transformed…into a wolf?! It turns out that Yū is one of many other eccentric boys in her class year–and she’s the only one who knows their secret…!

I found That Wolf-Boy is Mine on Instagram, and then read the volumes as soon as I could. I had only seen a snippet of the first chapter when I first came across this manga. When I started reading That Wolf-Boy is Mine, I didn’t really know what to expect to be honest.

The one thing that I did not like about this story was that there were the stereotypical girls who thought of the prettiest boys in school as property. This scene is admittedly a small part of the story. Yet that part takes up a huge part of the story, as it is one of Komugi’s insecurities — bullies and standing up to them.

Onto the parts that I liked and loved about That Wolf-Boy is Mine!

I generally enjoyed just about everything else that the story offered to be quite honest with you. I loved how the story progressed, regressed, and then progressed once again! I love the relationships that Komugi gains through friendships between her friends.

I adored the plot of the story, and I love love loved how the ending of That Wolf-Boy is Mine! came to be.

The only part of this story was the side story that was introduced to us. So I hope that if this story is ever re-visited by Nogiri, I hope everyone gets a happy ending.

But the new school Hinako attends in his stead is beyond unusual. Now she must fight her way to the top of Shishiku Academy, an all-boys school of delinquents!

I’ve seen the anime for this manga, but I’ve never read it. I actually thought that the story was really cute, too. So I’m glad that the library has the first volume in its’ database.

Reading in the first few pages that the story was first produced as a video game, I am not quite sure of what I should think of that little tidbit of information! A congratulations is in order though! To have a game turned into a manga and then turned into an anime?! That’s got to be a wild experience!

Behind the Scenes!! Vol. 01, by Bisco Hatori | Manga Review #52

Ranmaru Kurisu comes from a family of hardy, rough-and-tumble fisher folk, and he sticks out at home like a delicate, artistic sore thumb. It’s given him a raging inferiority complex and a permanently pessimistic outlook. Now that he’s in college, he’s hoping to find a sense of belonging. But after a whole life of being left out, does he even know how to fit in?!

It’s two months into Ranmaru’s college career, and if he’s learned one thing, it’s that he’s really uncomfortable around other people. But when he stumbles into a zombie mob attack, he’s forced out of his comfort zone in the most dramatic way possible! Of course it’s just a movie shoot, but when he wakes up from his ignoble faint, he’s been whisked away behind the scenes with the Art Squad! Could this group of weirdos be what Ranmaru’s been looking for all his life?!

I don’t know what it was about Behind the Scenes!! that drew me towards reading this manga. Actually, scratch that. What drew me towards Behind the Scenes!! is the fact that this manga is the same creator from that of Ouran High School Host Club. I’ve watched the anime for that series, and it is ridiculous as it is funny. Sometimes it’s a little over the top as well, which is what I hope for in Behind the Scenes!!

Quickly into starting my read through of Behind the Scenes!! I realized that I was actually genuinely enjoying the progress of the story. I also truly love the characters. Even the characters that aren’t necessarily part of the main focus!

He’s my Only Vampire Vol.08 + 09 + 10, by Aya Shouoto | Manga Review #40-42

“I will restore your love to you……”

When Eriya offers to help retrieve Aki’s memories, he and Kana begin spending quite a lot of time in each other’s company. Seeing the two of them cozily conspiring together, Aki soon finds himself becoming strangely irritated—-despite the fact that he’s said to have lost all recollection of his love for Kana. And with that, the threads that bind the three together grow even more tangled……

I didn’t have many thoughts concerning this eighth volume. But what I did think of this volume is as follows:

I bet that Aki gets the stigma of Envy.

I don’t like that I’m right in the sense that Eriya is up to no good. This eighth volume pretty much sums up that Eriya is a huge ol’ dumb-dumb.

I don’t like the love-triangle that these three are in.

The plot twist that happens nearing the end of this 8th volume has me very happy.

I give He’s My Only Vampire Volume 08, 3 stars.

He’s My Only Vampire Volume 09

“To think that sharing her with you would let me experience such unthinkable highs…!”

At long last, Aki has regained his memory. However, he and Kana are faced with a painful truth–all along, Kana has actually been Eriya’s thrall! Amid the chaos, the final Stigma appears, and the bloodred ties that bind the players in the game tighten to a stranglehold!

Ok. I’m not even going to say much about this 9th volume because hello spoilers. What I liked about this 9th volume is that the last stigma appeared. Which makes the story feel like it’s at its tipping point. So I know for sure that the 10th volume will be pretty interesting!

He’s My Only Vampire Volume 10

Born together and locked in endless struggle…that leaves us but one fate…

Envy, the final Stigma appears at last…on Kana! To protect her, Aki resolves to battle Eriya in earnest and sets out for Tsubakiin Manor. The tale of the love and blood red bonds shared by the beautiful vampire twins and their thrall comes to a thrilling conclusion!

I expected this last volume to be explosive. And boiiii, my feelings have exploded.

its great seeing Aki being talkative, and actually express himself for once.

It was great reading this last volume. There was quite a bit of action, and I want to say that this 10th volume was a little longer than the previous volumes, but I’m not too sure about that! I can say for sure though that this 10th volume felt pretty long.

There was so much that happened. I want to just spill my guts out and spoil everything. At the same time though, I want to savour the ending and my thoughts on it all to myself. I know that if I don’t write my thoughts down somewhere though, I’ll regret it later.

OK, so, the ending to the story is very bittersweet. I can’t help but wish that everyone got a happier ending and that they were all together as one big happy family. Saying that though…I’m kind of glad that the characters all got their own ending in a way. And sometimes these endings can’t be the ones that we were hoping for.

I can understand why the story ended this way. One, there are a few stories that we left unfinished. Mainly that Kana has AN OLDER SIBLING?! I hate that their story ended too soon.

In the end though, I’m quite happy that Kana and Aki got an ending that they earned. Especially with everything those two had been through in these 10 volumes.

I give He’s My Only Vampire Volume 10, 3 stars!

Dawn of the Arcana Volume 03, by Rei Tōma | Manga Review #39

Princess Nakaba of Senan is forced to marry Prince Caesar of the enemy country Belquat, tantamount to becoming a hostage. While Caesar is pleasing to the eye, he is also selfish and possessive, telling Nakaba outright: “You are my property.” With only her attendant Loki at her side, Nakaba must find a way to cope with her hostile surroundings, her fake marriage…and a mysterious power!

Princess Nakaba of Senan and Prince Caesar of Belquat only married each other for the sake of peace between their two warring countries, so no one expected there to be love between the unlikely couple. Nakaba is starting to warm to Caesar, however, and her attendant Loki doesn’t like this one bit. Are Loki and Caesar destined to be enemies? And how does Nakaba’s power, the Arcana of Time, fit into all this?

I know I say this about every other manga review I write, but I genuinely kind of forgot what happened in the second volume. However! Reading the different volumes is like going on a different adventure with every volume I read. Same characters, same overall story, yet a new adventure every time.

I went into reading this third volume kind of remembering what happened in the second volume. Nevertheless, this story is a great one to read, and I enjoyed what happens in this one! I especially liked learning more of the Arcana.

One of the things I liked in this 3rd volume was that Caesar stood up for his wife (Nakaba) to his King Father and Queen Mother. Which is no small feat since everyone in the Belquat kingdom, save for Caesar himself, seems to hate Princess Nakaba.

I am enjoying the fact that Nakaba is trying her damndest to not fall in love with Caesar, yet her heart isn’t listening at all.

Seeing what Nakaba can do with the Arcana is amusing. I wonder what her powers will grow into, and how effective her seeing will be. Seeing Nakaba work through her own thoughts was entertaining, and honestly, a little sad as well. Like, I don’t like seeing Nakaba sad because she’s usually a bright girl.

Seeing the secrets of Belquat was puzzling, because now the reader (and the characters) know what is really going on.

What happens at the end of this book is something that I adore about this series. — I enjoy getting to see Caesar act like a normal kid. I don’t actually know how old these characters are, but I do know that they’re highly entertaining and that I’m enjoying getting to know their stories.

This Akhil character is interesting. I wonder how his character will play out for the rest of the series.

My overall thoughts on this third volume is that the story seems to be making smooth progress. Of course there are bumps and lumps throughout the story to make things interesting, but I’m enjoying those as well.

I give Dawn of the Arcana Volume 03, 3.5 stars!

The Water Dragon’s Bride Volume 04, by Rei Tōma | Manga Review #38

A modern-day girl gets whisked away to a strange land where she is sacrificed to a water dragon god!

In the blink of an eye, a modern-day girl named Asahi is whisked away from her warm and happy home and stranded in a strange and mysterious world where she meets a water dragon god!

Because the water dragon god wants to interact with Asahi more, he descends to the village in the guise of a human. Asahi’s friend Subaru has mixed feelings about this but joins them on a journey to the capital. What adventures are in store, and how will their fates change?

I really didn’t know what to expect before I started reading this fourth volume, because I had forgotten the details of the first few volumes. However! I’m glad that the story takes off where the third volume ended, and I’m happy that the story is as interesting as ever!

Reading Asahi’s story is immensely satisfying. Especially with how the story is progressing (like I’ve said).

gosh, there was trouble again in this fourth volume. I didn’t like seeing how one of the capital’s priestesses caused all of the trouble, but I am pretty proud of how Asahi handled it all!

I’m anticipating (and predicting) that in the next few volumes, we will see the characters that were introduced in this volume again. I’m quite sure they’ll be causing quite a bit of trouble!

I give this fourth volume, 3 stars.

He’s My Only Vampire Vol.06 + 07, by Aya Shouto | Manga Review #37

“Forgive me. I can no longer love you prettily……”

After Kana regains her memories at Tsubakiin Manor, her feelings for Aki become colored by their shared past. Meanwhile, Aki offers Mishio a certain “deal” in order to rescue Kana. Where will Kana and Aki’s rapidly developing destiny lead them?!!

Each time I read a manga, I’m amazed at what can be packed into four or so chapters.

Within this 6th volume, we learn the true feelings that Aki has towards Kana, and we learn the feelings that Kana has towards Aki. Over the course of this volume, the story is one that has a lot of misgivings.

Aki does things in trying to save Kana, we learn the consequences that Aki has payed. In  that he jeopardizes himself. We also learn that from a young age Aki has been severely depressed.

Also, at the end of this there was a freaking plot twist! I’m interested in learning how that plot twist turns out to be….

I give this 6th volume, 3 stars!

He’s My Only Vampire Volume 07

“You said you loved me, right?” Kana is heartbroken as Aki treats her with cold indifference after losing all memory of her and their time together. Amid this confusion, Eriya–Aki’s younger twin brother said to have been put in sleep stasis after being nearly killed by Aki–makes his entrance!! What will happen when the blood-soaked vampire twins finally meet again?!

So I know that in this seventh (7th) volume the twins are reunited, but I can’t help but be a little angry at Eriya.

Volume 07 seems to have gotten out of hand, in my opinion. But I know that there are only 3 other volumes left, with a total of 10, so it’s bound to get a little wacky before the big finale.

In this seventh volume, we see a new character introduced, the history of another, as well as the true extent of what Aki did for Kana’s release.

I’m angry at Eriya, since he seems to be very, very manipulative and that ticks me off soooo much. I can also say with certainty that I despise Eriya in this volume. He might be able to redeem himself in the next volume, or at least by the end of the story. I highly doubt that though.

I have no idea where the story is heading and I’m nervous about that! I kind of want to not read the rest of the books, just to save myself from ruining the story for my future-self. However, I have the last 3 volumes beside me so now I’m off to read them!

I give this seventh volume 2 stars.

Clay and his friends had me laughing once I opened the page. As a reader, they easily came off the page and because real characters before my eyes. It was so easy to fall into this story. Before I knew what happened, it was the end of the first volume!

The story flows effortlessly. Needless to say it’s a great one, and the artwork is eye catching as well. Another thing that I liked about Clay Lord, was that the story is seriously action packed!

I love all the characters in this book. Seriously. Actually, I enjoyed every bit of this story, so I’m very excited to read the next 2 volumes.

If anything, I’m a little bummed that there’s only 3 volumes. However, that just leaves me wondering how the story will play out.

I give Clay Lord: Master of the Golems (first volume), 5 stars. — I loved it so much!

He’s My Only Vampire Vol. 05, by Aya Shouto | Manga Review #35

“Forget all love and thirst only for blood…”
Acquiring a third Stigma took a heavy toll on Aki’s body. To help him recuperate, Kana and the others plan a trip to a cozy hot-spring resort deep in the mist-shrouded mountains. Little do they know, this outing will open the sinister door of Aki’s “original sin,” and his hidden past will finally come to light!!

I like seeing the crush that Shiranui has on Kana. He’s so freaking adorable.

The obliviousness that Aki has is very…unusual to say the least.

OK, so, there seems to be a lot of things happening. and it seems that every other volume leads to a new discovery in the story. However, it’s slightly confusing, to say the least. With everything been thrown in, it seems like the author of the story just threw everything together hoping it would all fall into place.

Reading and seeing the history of the story was very interesting — especially since the history is seen from Kana’s point of view. I’m actually glad that we get to see/read the history between Eriya, Aki and Kana. The story felt a little off without it.

The story seems to be going in many different ways, so I’m interested in seeing what happens.

I give this 5th volume, 2 stars.

Caesar tries to get Nakaba to return his feelings, but she maintains that he is her enemy and that she hates him. So when Nakaba has a vision of Caesar getting killed, will she say anything to save him?

I genuinely didn’t know what to expect going into this second volume, since it feels like it’s been an age since I last read the first volume of Dawn of the Arcana. So I was quite nervous for the characters honestly!

The plot escalates quite quickly! Everything about this story engages you in the story. From the art work, to the characters, the pace of the story. As well as the fact that we see more of a development in the overall story within these 4 chapters.

It was different seeing a known passive character to act so vengeful. Something about another character has me concerned, since they play a pretty vital role in the story. I also don’t like that there seems to be a love triangle going to happen? Anywho…

What I liked about this second volume was that these chapters were incredibly fast to read. But these few chapters are also really engaging. While reading I could easily palce myself in the story and watch everything play out like a movie.

I give this second volume of Dawn of the Arcana, 2 stars!
