Succubus Sins, by J.R. Thorn | Book Review

Hello! Today I have my book review of

Succubus Sins, by J.R. Thorn.

Succubus Sins is the first book in the Blood Stone series.

Trigger Warning: Sex scenes, Death, Torture, Torture Mention, Rape, Rape Mention

See this tattoo across my stomach? Yeah, the one with seven crazy runes. Ignore the pink one on the far right, that’s Sarah. I love her, but she’s not one of my four. That was a hard lesson to learn.
I tried being loyal to her. Even went to a stinky Succubi Den to get a snack or two just to stay alive. Well, that didn’t work out, and now I’m stuck trying to charge some dusty old relic my mother left behind. Turns out there’s some crazy destiny tied to my tattoo, which is actually a birthmark and all about the end of the world. Sounds fun, sort of, not really.
I’ve met rune #1, and he wasn’t at all what I’d expected. It wasn’t love at first sight. Maybe hate at first sight. Pretty sure he hates my guts. But that’s okay, maybe rune #2 will bring him around.
This end of the world stuff is just getting started, and I have a feeling one of my very own sins is the one stirring the pot. The Incubus King, what sin might he be? Lust… my favorite one. Bring it on.
Author’s Note: This is a fast-burn reverse harem story. It includes explicit language and sexual situations. Intended for audiences 18 years and older. As this is a series, there will be a cliffhanger.

From GoodReads [x]:

“REVERSE HAREM” IS, LITERALLY, THE OPPOSITE OF “HAREM”, WITH A GROUP OF MALES CENTERING ROUND A SINGULAR FEMALE, USUALLY WITH THREE OR MORE MALES. QUITE OFTEN FOUND UNDER THE ROMANCE GENRE.

I was curious about reading Succubus Sins because I don’t normally read books where there’s a succubus as a main character. Though I have read succubus stories in the past. Unfortunately, Succubus Sins is a book that didn’t sit well with me nearing the end of the novel.

Within Succubus Sins, there are multiple points of view. However, the main character that we read from is Sonya. Sonya…is a difficult character for me to wrap my head around. Sonya is really…..all over the place–emotionally, mentally, and also physically.

There’s much that happens in this first novel. More than I had expected, actually.

While there is quite a bit of plot packed into this novel, there’s just as much that didn’t (and still doesn’t) make sense to me. I won’t go into detail about said things, because spoilers..

I’m saddened that there were parts of the story that were truly disgusting. The story would have been so much better without the unnecessary rape scene.

Though I say that I didn’t like Succubus Sins, that’s really not the case. In the beginning of this novel, I was actually enjoying what I was reading. Though both the story and Sonya were confusing to me, I liked what was happening as the novel was progressing. I was actually looking forward to reading book 2, and perhaps book 3. …And then I read the scenes nearing the end of this book.

I won’t be reading more of the Blood Stone novels.

I give Succubus Sins, 1 star.

Have you read any of J.R. Thorn’s work?

Unfortunately, Succubus Sins was my first J.R. Thorn’s novel. I’m interested in reading her other novels, but not for now..

Thank you for stopping by!

See you soon, and Happy Reading!

Hello friends! Welcome to my May 2019 Wrap-Up!

I hope May has treated you well; and if not I’m sorry May was a bad month for you..

My May was very entertaining reading wise. Aside from reading though, May is also one of the busiest months of the year for my family. We have Mother’s Day, my dads birthday, my parents wedding anniversary, and finally, my sister’s birthday on the 31st.

Despite the busy month, I actually managed to read a ton of books. *whispers* I also managed to buy more ebooks than I thought I did. WHOOPS!

Enjoy! Continue reading
