Wolf’s Bane, by Crystal Ash | Book Review

Hello friend! Welcome back to Adele Is Reading.

Today’s post is a book review! I’m slowly but surely catching up on the past year of reviews, friends. I didn’t want to bombard anyone so I’ve been staying up late to draft, and schedule them all. @~@; my poor eyes >_<.

Here’s my review of Wolf’s Bane, by Crystal Ash.

Wolf’s Bane is the first book in the Shifted Mates trilogy.

Trigger Warnings: Gun Usage, Gun Violence, Violence, Attempted Rape, Murder, and Blood.

He stole a kiss and ran off with my heart between his teeth.I should’ve expected as much from a wolf.I’m a fox shifter in a world run by humans. They treat us like we’re beneath them, and shoot us when they have the chance. I’ll do anything to protect my family, so I learned how to shoot back. My aim is true and I’m just waiting for someone to piss off the wrong vixen. Turns out, we have bigger threats than humans. Orion, the smoldering silver wolf, reappears suddenly and my heart can’t handle it. I refuse to let him hurt me again, but he’s here to warn me about a greater evil. The same one that plagued him that night, when I saw him through the crack in the door years ago.All I ever wanted was get over him and settle down with another fox. I just met a cute one named Conan too. But when shifters are being sacrificed for dark magic, a girl’s got to take aim and fire.

Supernatural Academy: Year One, by Jaymin Eve | Book Review

Hello book friends, who are my friends non-the-less! Welcome back to Adele Is Reading.

How are you?

Today I bring my book review of Supernatural Academy: Year One, by Jaymin Eve.

Supernatural Academy: Year One is the first book in the Supernatural Academy series.

Enjoy!

Maddison James is about to discover some truths about the world.

Firstly … supernaturals exist.
WTF?

Secondly … she is one, even though no one seems to know exactly what kind.
Double WTF.

Thirdly … she’s about to go back to school.
Well, things just got a little more interesting.

The Supernatural Academy is where shifters, vampires, magic users, and fey are educated. Where they are taught about their abilities, and how to function in the human world. Maddison already has the human part down, but this supernatural thing is an entirely new dangerous game.

Example one: mean girls who can actually turn you into a frog.

Example two: Asher Lock, a god at the Academy. Not literally … well, who knows for sure. He certainly acts the part, as do all of his minions who worship him.

Asher drives her crazy, because apparently snarly, gorgeous, and arrogant is her thing, and despite their mutual dislike, sparks fly between them. The more they’re thrown together, the more Asher is determined to figure out what’s been blocking her abilities.

Until the moment the truth is revealed, and they find out nothing in this supernatural world is what they thought.

I went into No Claim thinking that I’d end up enjoying the story as much as I did the first book. Well, I didn’t.

I will say that the dialogue between character felt more natural to me–though there were still a few scenes that could have went over better.

For the most part, I really enjoyed where the story went, and I liked that Elodie stood up for herself and her people. The ones who’d past and the ones who were yet to be born.

But honestly though….that whole scheme that was meant to be a plot twist could have been 100% left out and the story would have been fine.

I really enjoyed that there was a HEA though!!

I give No Claim, 2.5 stars.

pink leaf divider

Have you read The Alpha Brothers duology yet? I’m contemplating on whether or not I should read the “third” book, which is a companion novel to this duology. I think I’ll need some time between this book and whenever I decide to read this companion novel.

Thank you for stopping by!

See you soon, and Happy Reading!

No Alpha, by G. Bailey | Book Review

Hello, friends! Today I have my book review of

No Alpha, by G. Bailey.

No Alpha is the first book in The Alpha Brothers trilogy.

TW: Slavery, Murder, Blood, mentions of rape, mentions of slavery. Sex scenes.

Also, just as a general side-note, No Alpha is one hell of a gruesome book. No Alpha is absolutely NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART.

pink leaf divider

8C692B6E-498E-4B70-849B-738CA8F77236A wolf with no claim. A disgrace to the wolves’ society. Never fit to be a mate for any wolf… Trash.
Elodie Masters knows she is too weak to escape her life as a pack slave, a wolf with no claim and overall blight to the wolves’ precious society. When her pack is attacked, Elodie should have run, but instead she is kept by the Alpha Brothers.
Ruthless. Cruel. Heartless brothers…or at least that’s what everyone says about them.
And they were right.
The brothers don’t want her as a mate; they claim she is too weak to be anything…but they won’t let her go.
Yet sometimes strength hides in the weak, and you don’t see it coming until it literally bites you back.

Dark RH Romance 18+ WARNING: Contains dark themes not for the faint of heart.

From GoodReads [x]:

“REVERSE HAREM” IS, LITERALLY, THE OPPOSITE OF “HAREM”, WITH A GROUP OF MALES CENTERING ROUND A SINGULAR FEMALE, USUALLY WITH THREE OR MORE MALES. QUITE OFTEN FOUND UNDER THE ROMANCE GENRE.

Wooooah-boy. This book. Seriously. The tone of the story that is carried on throughout the entirety of this first book is…intense. And I say that in a way that I can’t really begin to describe to you. But not for the lack of trying, No Alpha is a darker toned novel because the main character, Elodie, has been treated as a slave for all of her life, and in that, everyone (including Elodie herself) believes that she’s broken. That she’s a nobody and that no one will ever want her.

No Alpha is pretty much told from one point of view, and Elodie’s point of view is so, so stunted, because all Elodie has known in her life is that she can’t trust anyone, and her two emotions are Fear and Anger.

When Elodie is freed from her captors, Elodie slowly learns how to trust the guys around her–if not at least put an arms length away from them emotionally. So when she’s with the guys, and when Elodie learns the taste of her freedom, we see a totally different side of Elodie. She’s curious, and she can now stand for what she believes in–equal treatment for all.

The plot for No Alpha moves really quickly, and there’s actually quite a lot of sex involved in this book.

Overall, No Alpha was nothing at all as to what I expected.

I give No Alpha 3 stars.

Have you read No Alpha, or anything else by G. Bailey?

No Alpha is not my first read of G. Bailey, but perhaps it is the one that had let me down a bit.

Thanks for stopping by!

Dark King, by C.N. Crawford | Book Review

Hello, there! Today I have my book review of:

Dark King, by C.N. Crawford

Dark King is the first book in the Court of the Sea Fae

TW: Attempted Murder, Murder, Torture.

pink leaf divider

49297943._SX318_SY475_A snarky fae, a sexy king, and forbidden desire deep as the sea.

Once, I was a fae princess with sea-magic at my fingertips. Now? I’m a hunted supernatural in a squalid shop, stripped of my power. My only comforts are stale cookies, Elvis records, and my hula-hoop. Until a lethally sexy fae king arrives and rips even those away.

After the brutal king throws me in prison, I strike a bargain with him: my freedom in exchange for helping him find a magic blade. What Lyr doesn’t know is that the blade might restore my stolen magic.

But as we journey, the gorgeous jerk is starting to make me feel things I’ve never felt. When Lyr touches me, desire ignites. I see raging passion in his eyes, too. If I give in, I risk losing my chance at reclaiming my power. Even worse… I could be forfeiting my life.

pink leaf divider

Interesting to say the least. I thought that I would’ve liked Dark King more but sometimes you read things and they turn out to be not what you expected 🤷‍♀️.

I liked the progression of the story, the flow of the plot and pacing was actually well done.

Another thing I liked was that Aenor wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows; she had her dark moments. Aenor wasn’t …. the golden girl, I guess you could say. She has her flaws and all she wanted to do was to help in raising Gina, and save/help women/young ladies/people in dire need of it. Something else to mention is that the author didn’t shy away from Aenor feeling greedy ‘n’ gruesome.

There’s also some romance in this first Court of the Sea Fae book as well. I can’t say that I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it either.

I give Dark King, 3 stars.

At this point of time I do want to read the second book, but I’m not entirely sure if I’m going to go through with it.

pink leaf divider

Have you read Dark King? If yes, what did you think of it? Have you read anything by C.N. Crawford?

Dark King is actually the first book I read of Crawford’s! I first read Queen of Storms, and I did not end up enjoying it as much as I wished I had. Here’s to hoping that another book of Crawford’s will be more enjoyable!

Thank you for stopping by!

Shadow Caster, by Debbie Cassidy | Book Review

Hello friends! Welcome to another book review on my blog!

Today I’m reviewing
Shadow Caster, by Debbie Cassidy.

Shadow Caster is the first book in The Nightwatch Academy series.

Trigger Warnings: Abuse mention.

pink leaf divider

46298557._SY475_Murdering humans is a huge no-no and comes with an off-with-your-head sentence. Doesn’t matter if you don’t remember doing the crime.

I killed a human, and no, it wasn’t on purpose, but that shit doesn’t matter to the council. I’m facing death. So, when I’m offered a deal to avoid execution, I’d be a fool not to take it, even if it means leaving the human world and urban life behind to enroll in the Nightwatch Academy – a gothic monstrosity hidden from human eyes, located way too close to the largest tear in the fabric of our reality.

It would be fun if I had any inclination of becoming a member of the Watch or supporting the shadow knights at keeping the Formorian threat at bay. But heck, the monsters beyond the mist aren’t my problem. I have personal demons to deal with.

Once I’m out, the Watch can shove it.

But one sip from the ceremonial goblet and my plans to coast are out of the window as my powers spark to life.

I’m an anomaly, one the Watch won’t be letting walk any time soon.

My only comfort is a man who prides himself on his ability to harness pain. Battle scarred and formidable, he’s my tutor, my mentor, and the object of some super saucy dreams. He’s completely off limits and my only hope of surviving my first test.

I’ll need to harness my powers fast.

There can be no distractions.

But when my fellow cadets start going missing then returning with no memory of who they used to be and my best friend is taken, turning a blind eye is no longer an option.

Allies are limited when you’re a freak. Luckily, I don’t need a cheer squad to get shit done. Whoever is responsible better watch out. I’m coming for them, and I’ll be bringing the pain.

The Vampire Academy meets Game of Thrones in this kick-ass, supernatural academy, Urban Fantasy with a slow burn Why Choose Romance.

Rage, by K.A Knight | Book Review

Rage, by K.A Knight.

Rage is the first book in the Her Monsters series.

Trigger Warnings: Graphic Violence, Graphic Rape Scene (that phases out), Murder, Death, Stalking, Abuse, Spousal Abuse, Physical Abuse, Mental Abuse, Torture, Sex.

pink leaf divider

45310070._SY475_My husband killed me.

Then he screwed his way through the city, the only problem? I didn’t stay dead. It seems killing me woke something deep inside, something so dark and buried so deep I never knew it was there.

I don’t know what I am, I don’t really care. All I can think about is revenge, even as the monsters in the dark start to surround me. Their horns and black eyes, mouths filled with fangs claiming I am theirs.

My monsters will have to wait, he will regret the day he crossed me.

Are you scared of the dark? You should be.

*18+ Reverse Harem Romance. Warning this book contains scenes and references of abuse/assault that some readers may find triggering. Along with graphic sex scenes and violence. This is a dark book*

Let me start off my review of Rage by telling you that from the first page of when Dawn’s story starts, to about….I want to say 30-50 pages into the novel, it is extreme.

Do not take the Trigger Warnings I’ve listed lightly. The beginning of Rage is graphic in ways that I wish I never knew, and am so fucking thankful, that I’ve never experienced this kind of abuse, terror, and torture, personally.

The Hidden, by Ivy Asher | Book Review

Hello friends! Today I have my book review of
The Hidden by Ivy Asher.

The Hidden is the first book in the Shadowed Wings series

Trigger Warnings: Sex scenes, Blood, Decapitation, Fighting.

pink leaf divider

47762658._SY475_I am a latent wolf shifter.
Or so I thought.

Then life as I knew it changed in a flash—or more accurately, an electrocution.

I’ve woken up in a strange place, surrounded by strange people who hate me. They’re in the middle of a war, and I look like I belong on the wrong side of it.

If that’s not enough to qualify as a really bad day, I now have wings and a strange animal to figure out, because it turns out that there’s not a damn latent thing about me.

If I want to live, I have to prove that I’m not the spy I’m accused of being. Then I need to figure out how the fuck to get back home before all hell breaks loose. Too bad my animal has zero interest in working with me unless it has to do with the two hot assholes that lead this rebel group.

I’m on my own, in a place I’ve never even heard of, with threats I don’t know how to defeat. And lucky me, I might as well have a rotisserie chicken living inside of me for all the help my newly discovered gryphon is.

Perfect. Just fucking perfect.

The Hidden was a truly interesting story. I couldn’t help but be captivated by the story. Rarely do I ever hear–or get to read–about shifter’s who are Gryphon’s. I was so glad that I still had my Kindle Unlimited, so I got to read this story. Continue reading
