Root Rot Academy, by Rhea Watson | Series Book Review

Hello and welcome back to Adele Is Reading.
Today on the blog I have my book review of:

Root Rot Academy trilogy, by Rhea Watson.

Root Rot is a trilogy, with the each book being titled:
Root Rot Academy: Term One
Root Rot Academy: Term Two
Root Rot Academy: Term Three

Trigger Warnings: Murder mention, Teacher / Student Abuse (and mentions), Attempted Murder, Murder, Blood, Stalking, Attempted Rape, Assault, Fighting, Sex Scenes and BDSM.

Root Rot Academy: The Complete Trilogy includes all three full-length books from the Root Rot Trilogy + a short follow-up for those who love reconnecting with the main characters after The End. The trilogy is a supernatural academy Why-Choose romance centered around the professors and staff. It contains mature subject matter that might not be suitable for all readers.

The warlock who murdered my parents is teaching at Root Rot Academy—and now, so am I.

Once upon a time, a monster killed my parents and left me to burn in my bed.

Twenty-six years later, I finally found him.

We might have both become professors, but we are nothing alike. Benedict Hammond is a liar, a murderer, a psychopath.

And I’m the witch here to punish him.

I renamed myself after the fury Alecto years ago, and now it’s time to taste her madness—to exact my righteous revenge.

You know…

Once I figure out what that is, exactly.

But it’s coming, and nothing is going to distract me.

Not my gorgeous vampire roommate, the complete package and totally off-limits.

Not the mysterious head librarian, a fae as intriguing as he is infuriating.

Oh, and definitely not my powerful warlock headmaster who makes me feel so deliciously small.

I’m here to collect a life debt—that’s all that matters.

And…

And…

And I’m not terrified.

Nope. Not at all.

From GoodReads [x]:

“REVERSE HAREM” IS, LITERALLY, THE OPPOSITE OF “HAREM”, WITH A GROUP OF MALES CENTERING ROUND A SINGULAR FEMALE, USUALLY WITH THREE OR MORE MALES. QUITE OFTEN FOUND UNDER THE ROMANCE GENRE.

Jumping right into things, I read the Root Rot Academy series in one sitting. My series review is more of how I felt about the trilogy as a whole, more than the individual books. Plus, it’s been too long (over a year) since I’ve read the trilogy.

What I can say about this series is that there are 4 points of view in total, and I enjoyed reading from all of them. …Which doesn’t happen all that often, despite me saying otherwise.

What I liked the most, and what made me decide to read the Root Rot Academy trilogy series is that the characters involved themselves are all old enough to be teachers. Which means! That! These characters are not the students themselves. Lately I’ve been into the older characters, i.e., not high school students, but more characters around the 20+ age mark. — Getting back to what I was saying though, was that I love that this story takes place in a school setting, but none of the main characters or love interests were students of the school themselves.

This is because I’ve found that lately I just don’t have the energy to put up with reading school/academy settings wherein the main characters are students themselves.

Something else that I genuinely loved/enjoyed about the series is how mature our female lead is. Like, she’s there for her friends. She’s genuinely there, and she genuinely cares. When a character is down about something, Alecto (the main lead) is usually the first / only person who does something about it. I love that Alecto takes action and stands up for what she believes in.

The writing is another thing that I enjoyed as well. I like that there were details in the story, but those details weren’t the delved into to the point where the story is consumed by them. There’s breathing room in the story from the details of everything, and I love that it was so effortlessly done.

Note that there are sex scenes in this series, and just to be on the side of caution, if you don’t like reading sex scenes, maybe skip this series. Personally I found that the sex scenes were good, which is always a good thing, in my opinion.

All in all, I give each of the three books (and the trilogy as a whole) 4 stars!

Have you read the Root Rot Academy trilogy?

Thank you for stopping by.

See you soon, and happy reading.

The Rise of Eden, by Storm Song | Book Review

Hello and welcome to Adele Is Reading.
Today on the blog I have my book review of:

The Rise of Eden, by Storm Song.

The Rise of Eden is the third book in the Elemental Eden series.

Trigger / Content Warning: Sex Scenes, Sex Scenes with Multiple Partners, Fighting, Broken Leg / Broken Bones mention (and scene; not Eden herself).

Please note that it is entirely possible that I didn’t capture all of the possible triggers.

The time cures has been shattered, but so has everything I thought was true.

With more questions than answers I restarted the clock.

My race to save the elemental districts has started again, but this time I don’t even know who I’m really fighting against.

But what if, the person I hate the most, is the person I need to unlock my ultimate powers and save everything I’ve ever loved.

Crap.

The Rise of Eden was pretty good! I read this right after finishing The Dark Eden (book 2). Let me tell you, this third book is one hell of a whirlwind.

Hint of Danger, by Meg Anne | Book Review

Hello and welcome back to Adele Is Reading.
Today on the blog, I have my book review of:

Hint of Danger, by Meg Anne.

Hint of Danger is the first book in the Undercover Magic series.

Trigger / Content Warnings: Sexual Content, “steamy” moments, Blood, Fighting, Murder mention, Flashbacks (of murder), Nightmares/Night Terrors

Note that I haven’t read Hint of Danger in over a year, so I may have missed any possible triggers.

Lina wants the one thing a ghost can’t have. To be touched.

When she’s given the opportunity to rejoin the world of the living and experience exactly that, the muscle-bound immortal warrior with icy blue eyes is just what the doctor ordered.

As soon as Nord sees Lina sitting at the bar, he knows she’s who he’s been searching for. The woman he’s soul-bound to protect.

There’s just one problem.

He’s helpless against the very thing she needs protection from: Her past.

Lina might be the ghost, but she’s the one who’s haunted. Because the secrets of her past are coming for her. And if her dreams are any indication, those truths are the reason she ended up dead in the first place.

So while fate may have granted her a second chance at life, unraveling the mystery of who—and what—she used to be is the only thing standing between her and happily ever after.

HINT OF DANGER is the first book in the Undercover Magic series, a steamy and suspenseful paranormal romance following a ghost and a berserker’s chance meeting at The Monster Ball. Thankfully, the ball was just the beginning for these two fated lovers. So if you adore overprotective, ax-wielding alphas, smoldering sexual tension, supernatural secret societies, and loads of banter, you’ve just found your next read!

PLEASE NOTE this new, expanded edition includes the previously released prequel novella, Shade of Danger, as well as a brand-new bonus scene!

Woman of Blood and Bone, by Annie Anderson | Book Review

Hello hello! Welcome back to Adele Is Reading.
Today on the blog, I have my book review of:

Woman of Blood and Bone, by Annie Anderson.

Woman of Blood and Bone is the first book in the Rogue Ethereal series.

Trigger / Content Warnings: Murder mention, Blood mention, Stabbing, Stalking, mentions of domestic abuse (boyfriend to girlfriend), pregnancy, death.

Please note that I may have not recorded all of the possible triggers.

I was burned at the stake at fourteen…
I was drowned in a lake when I was twenty-four…
At twenty-seven, I was stoned in a public square…

I have died a hundred times in a hundred different ways, usually at the hands of the humans I’ve tried to save. But when a pregnant young woman finds her way into my tattoo shop with a demon on her tail, things go from bad to worse. Being a centuries-old witch isn’t going to help me – nothing will.

This time I might just die in a way that sticks… Permanently.

To be fairly honest with you, I didn’t put much thought into Woman of Blood and Bone prior to reading it. Actually, I don’t think I read the synopsis at all. My mind is all over the place with what I’ve read over the past few years, so I’m unable to remember if I’ve read anything else by Annie Anderson. I feel like I have, but I’m not sure. However, when I was reading Woman of Blood and Bone, the story gave me the feeling as if I was reading Anderson’s work for the very first time. So it works out either way.

Kiss of the Damned, by Elena Lawson | Book Review

Hello and welcome back to Adele Is Reading.
Today on the blog, I have my book review of:

Kiss of the Damned, by Elena Lawson.

Kiss of the Damned is the first book in the Fallen Cities: Elisium series.

Trigger / Content Warnings: Vague mentions of Torture, Torture mention, Child Abuse mention (via MC), Emotional Abuse mention (via the MC).

Paige has no interest in being a demon’s plaything.

She shouldn’t even be in the Fallen City of Elisium, but all it takes is one Nephilim jerk proclaiming her to be tainted and that’s exactly where she winds up.

The demons she encounters there are vile, wicked beings, though none more so than Kincaid: the cruelest and most powerful of them all. To ensure her safe return home, Paige must strike a bargain with him.

Forty days in exchange for her freedom.

With no other option, she agrees. If Kincaid’s interest in her can help solve the riddle of her origin and aid in her escape from Elisium, she figures it’ll all be worth it.

Only, the more time she spends with Kincaid, the more the tenuous line between love and hate melts away. Soon, Paige will be forced to confront something far more disquieting than the truth of her heritage: a confusing connection with a demon that she cannot deny.

From bestselling author, Elena Lawson comes the first book in an inventive new series that will thrust the reader into a world of dark temptation, deception, and desire.

Perfect for fans of L.J. Smith, Kresley Cole, and enemies-to-lovers romances. Enter the supernatural world of Fallen Cities in Kiss of the Damned today.

*This book is part of a series and ends in a cliffhanger.*

At first I thought that Kiss of the Damned would be kinda boring. I read it anyway, and I’m so glad that Kiss of the Damned isn’t boring at all.

Widow, by Maya Nicole | Book Review

Hello and welcome back to Adele Is Reading!
Today I have my book review of:

Widow, by Maya Nicole.

Trigger / Content Warnings: Sex, Murder, Arrest, Blood

My job was to save lives.

I did a pretty damn good job until a woman was rolled into my ER seven months ago. She should have been dead on arrival. Under the bright exam lights, strapped to a gurney, she whispered her final words. I shouldn’t have leaned in.

My world was changed forever.

Bars were my hunting ground. Drink after drink. Man after man. I fed the eight-legged monster that lived inside of me. Or hundreds of monsters. They tended to pour out of me when I gave in.

I almost gave myself over to the urges. That was until I met them: a quirky alpha wolf shifter with a pocket-sized monkey, a fallen angel with a mermaid obsession, and the devil that had more baggage than LAX.

Will they help me fight the darkness that lurks inside of me, or will they let it consume me?

Reverse harem, full-length novel
Standalone
Multiple POV
Medium burn, 18+ recommended
M/M touching
Foul language

Although this is a standalone novel, it is a spinoff of my Celestial Academy trilogy, which features Lucifer as the father of the female main character. The original Widow, Alaric, and Kai all make appearances in the series as well. Check out my author page to read Ascend (Celestial Academy Book 1).

Crescent Wolves is the first book in the Supernatural Shifter Academy series.

Trigger Warnings: Attempted Child Abuse, Attempted Assault, Kidnapping, Torture mention, Murder, Human/Shifter Experimentation.

Secret societies. Magical boarding schools. Supernatural beings…What could go wrong?

I’m Millie Brix and apparently, I’m a supernatural shifter. Funny eighteenth birthday present, right?

Chosen for Supernatural Shifter Academy, I have to learn which shifter clan I belong to and how to use my powers that are slowly growing out of control. Supernatural Shifter Academy only has five hundred places and if I’m not strong enough to survive, I won’t get to walk away.

The Sirens lure you in, the Wolves bite first and ask questions later, the Dragons only care for themselves, the Vampires plan to own the world and the Witches will do whatever it takes to win.

I’m not going to let the academy or its students beat me, that’s for sure.

With a prince of the Vampires seducing me, a secretive Siren dead set on making me his, a gorgeous Wolf shifter who wants to claim my heart and an alpha Dragon who sees me as a prize he wants to keep… the academy is far more dangerous than it looks.

In this academy, secrets are the only thing you can trade with and I’m right in the middle of the biggest secret the academy has.

And when the truth comes out…the academy will fall.

17+ Reverse Harem Romance which means the main character will have more than one love interest. This is book one of a five-book series and will be rapidly released.
