September 2017 Wrap Up

unnamed

My TBR this September contained 5 books. I usually have a max of 3 books a month, since that seems to be the amount of books that I can handle. However, I got stressed and amped the books up from the usual 3 books to 5 books. Especially with reading library books, and just being busy with life in general.

The books that I had on my TBR this month (from left to right) were: I See You by Clare Mackintosh, Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody, The Beast is an Animal by Peternelle van Arsdale, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke, Spider’s Bite by Jennifer Estep.

Of the 5 books I had on my TBR this month, I only managed to read 2 of them; The Daughter of the Burning City, and, Spider’s Bite. However, I did start reading I See You — but I See You is so incredibly detailed (and I’m only 10 pages in) that the book is slower than I thought it would be.

The Books I read this September (15):

The Fate of the Tearling, by Erika Johansen | Book Review #269

Book Review

27064449The thrilling conclusion to the Tearling trilogy.

In less than a year, Kelsea Glynn has transformed from a gawky teenager into a powerful monarch. As she has come into her own as the Queen of the Tearling, the headstrong, visionary leader has also transformed her realm. In her quest to end corruption and restore justice, she has made many enemies—including the evil Red Queen, her fiercest rival, who has set her armies against the Tear.

To protect her people from a devastating invasion, Kelsea did the unthinkable—she gave herself and her magical sapphires to her enemy—and named the Mace, the trusted head of her personal guards, regent in her place. But the Mace will not rest until he and his men rescue their sovereign, imprisoned in Mortmesne.

Now, as the suspenseful endgame begins, the fate of Queen Kelsea—and the Tearling itself—will finally be revealed.

The prologue to The Fate of the Tearling was incredibly interesting

August 2017 Wrap Up

unnamed-20Hello everyone! Today’s post is that of my August 2017 wrap-up. How has your August been? — It’s incredibly hard for me to believe that August has already come and pass. That tomorrow is September.

It’s always hard for me to finish my monthly TBR lists. I usually have at least 6 or 7 books planned out that I want to read. With having only 2 or 3 books on my monthly TBR now, I’ve found that it is much more manageable for me to accomplish the list I’ve made.

My TBR of this month had 3 books on it. The TBR books were: Undead and Unwed (Undead, #1) by MaryJanice Davidson. Then there was Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1) by Amanda Hocking, and finally, You’re Welcome, Universe by Whitney Gardner. I managed to read all of this months’ TBR! This is the first (or second, I can’t really remember) time I’ve managed to read what was on my monthly TBR! Continue reading

5 Book Sequels That Have Disappointed Me

5disseqFor me there are always a few books in their series/trilogies/duologues that disappoint me. I’ll read the first book and then when the time comes around to read the second book, sometimes even further into the series, I find that I’m left disappointed. Either I don’t like where the story is going, the writing, or just the plot of the sequel(s).

I’ve actually gotten into the habit of starting a lot of series but never end up reading the rest of the sequels because I’m legitimately afraid that the second book will ruin the first one for me. Reading a sequel that was a disappointment has actually resulted in me not enjoying the first book as much. Here are 5 book sequels that have disappointed me.

But what books are being published in November that I’m interested in? Lets see!:

December Wrap Up & #ReadWomen Final Update

Hello! If you didn’t know, for the month of December there was a reading challenge over on tumblr. The sole purpose of this challenge was to only read books written by women, in support of women. I’m actually writing this as a December Wrap Up to save time and energy.

The books I read this past month have all written by women! I usually read books what are written by females anyway, but still. – These are the books that I’ve read for the Read Women challenge (all books are listed in the order that I read them): Continue reading

The Invasion of the Tearling by Erika Johansen | Book Review #46

22698568

With each passing day, Kelsea Glynn is growing into her new responsibilities as Queen of the Tearling. By stopping the shipments of slaves to the neighboring kingdom of Mortmesne, she crossed the Red Queen, a brutal ruler whose power derives from dark magic, who is sending her fearsome army into the Tearling to take what is hers. And nothing can stop the invasion.

But as the Mort army draws ever closer, Kelsea develops a mysterious connection to a time before the Crossing, and she finds herself relying on a strange and possibly dangerous ally: a woman named Lily, fighting for her life in a world where being female can feel like a crime. The fate of the Tearling —and that of Kelsea’s own soul—may rest with Lily and her story, but Kelsea may not have enough time to find out.

**Trigger warning!! Rape & self harm happen in this book.**

There are a few things that I had predicted while reading this book and they came out to be true. So I found this book to be a smidgen predictable, but other than that, I didn’t really know what to expect of this story and kept my mind open to all of the possibilities.  Continue reading

The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen | Book Review #45

18712886

‘An untested young princess must claim her throne, learn to become a queen, and combat a malevolent sorceress in an epic battle between light and darkness in this spectacular debut– the first novel in a trilogy.

Young Kelsea Raleigh was raised in hiding after the death of her mother, Queen Elyssa, far from the intrigues of the royal Keep and in the care of two devoted servants who pledged their lives to protect her. Growing up in a cottage deep in the woods, Kelsea knows little of her kingdom’s haunted past . . . or that its fate will sone rest in her hands.

Long ago, Keslea’s forefathers sailed away from a decaying world to establish a new land free of modern technology. Three hundred years later, this fuedal society has divided into three fearful nations who pay duties to a fourth: the powerful Mortmesne, ruled by the cunning Red Queen. Now, on Kelsea’s nineteenth birthday, the tattered remnants of the Queen’s Guard–loyal soldiers who protect the throne–have appeared to escort the princess on a perilous journey to the capital to ascend to her rightful place as the new Queen of the Tearling.

Though born of royal blood and in possession of the Tear sapphire, a jewel of immense power and magic, Kelsea has never felt more uncertain of her ability to rule. But the shocking evil she discovers in the heart of her realm will precipitate an act of immense daring, throwing the entire kingdom into turmoil–and unleashing the Red Queen’s vengeance. A cabal of enemies with an array of deadly weapons, from crimson-caped assassins to the darkest blood magic, plots to destroy her. But Kelsea is growing in strength and stealth, her steely resolve earning her loyal allies, including the Queen’s Guard, led by the enigmatic Lazarus, and the intruging outlaw known simply known as “the Fetch.”

Kelsea’s quest to save her kingdom and meet her destiny has only just begun. Riddled with mysteries, betrayals, and treacherous battles, Kelsea’s journey is a trial by fire that will either forge a legend . . . or destroy.

When it comes down to it, Kelsea’s kingdom needs her to be a ruthless leader, and she shapes up to that role perfectly. Continue reading

#ReadWomen

Hello, all! So you may have heard by now (especially if you’re in the booklr community over on tumblr) that there is a new reading challenge happening during the month of December!

The challenge is called #readwomen and how it works is that you only read books written by women for a month. I’ve seen some people extend theirs to see how long they can go without reading a book written by a male author. Which I personally enjoy seeing because I seem to have been only reading female written books for the last while now.

The whole challenge isn’t to degrade men, or tear down their work. The point of this whole challenge is to support female authors and I, for one, am all about supporting females in all aspects of life.

The books I’m going to try to read are 9 books I own, and a few library books that I’ve been meaning to read.. I need to get the library pile down!!!

These are some of the books I want to try to read for sure: Continue reading
