August 2018 Books I’m Looking Forward to!

ucbrpicHello friends! It’s that time of the month, where I talk about the book publishings that I’m looking forward to next month! Since it’s July this month, the books I’m going to be talking about in this post are books that are going to be published in August.

A little note as well, my genre-of-interest’s have grown from beyond Young Adult. Well, they’ve always been beyond only YA. But there are some non-YA books I’m going to be talking about in this post as well.

Without a further ado, here are the 9 books I’m looking forward to, in August.

Are there any books on this list that you’re interested in as well?

Enjoy!

January 2018 Wrap Up & Book Haul

Hello lovelies! This is my final post for the first month of the new year! The older I get, the faster time seems to fly by and I have no idea how to handle that… As you can see by the title, today’s post is my January 2018 Wrap Up & Book Haul! Like last month, I seem to have gotten quite a few books. February is going to be one heck of a reading month, if I can find the time to read.

I didn’t have a set TBR this month. I wanted to keep things open and be able to Continue reading

Venturess, by Betsy Cornwell | Book Review #314

Venturess is the second book to Mechanica.
Therefore, this review might contain spoilers

IMG_5189Happily ever after is just the beginning.

Nicolette’s Cinderella story is over, and she’s finally living her own fairy tale happy ending. She’s a successful inventor now, free of her horrible stepfamily, and content in her loving friendship with Caro, a palace servant, and Fin, the prince of Esting.

Then she receives a message from her long-lost housekeeper, now a revolutionary, begging her to bring the prince to Faerie for a diplomatic meeting. Nicolette fears a trap, but decides that the chance to end the bloody war waged by their kingdom is worth the risk.

Together with Fin and Caro, she ventures across the monster-filled ocean to the lush continent she’s always dreamed of visiting. There, mechanical armies and dark magic await as they uncover devastating secrets about the past and fight for a real, lasting happily-ever-after for two troubled countries—and themselves.

Hello! Today’s post is my review of Venturess, by Betsy Cornwell.
If you’ve read this book, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
Enjoy!

Believe it or not, but I didn’t plan on truly reading Venturess.. I didn’t know what to expect when I read Venturess; I thought I’d give it a try and then move on. Now that I’ve actually read the book though, I’m fairly glad that I chose to sit down and read it.  Continue reading

Library Reads #32

libraryrreadsLibrary Reads: I’m a Library Lover, so these posts are where I document the books I’ve borrowed from either one library, of a few libraries. I’ll tell you a little bit about what I expect from the book, or the author’s writings. Whether what I say is a sentence long, or a few sentence’s. From doing these posts, I hope to spread a little of my love for libraries, while also informing you of books that you may or may not have known of!

These are the books that I’ve borrowed from the last two weeks of October, to the first 2 weeks of November.

ucbrpicHello! Today’s post is about the books that are going to be published next month, in August. I’ve been finding that I’m getting more and more into Mystery/Thriller novels. If you have any Mystery/Thriller novels that you think I would like, I’m all ears!

Here are a few book’s that I’m looking forward to this August. I know I more than likely won’t get around to reading them when they’re out on the floor for purchase, but I can look at them from afar until I read them. Here are those books!

May Wrap Up | 2017

monthly-wrap-up-book-haul-1

How was everyone’s May? May is actually one of the busiest months for me. I mean, there’s mothers day, my brother’s wedding anniversary, my dad’s birthday, my parents wedding anniversary, and then my sisters birthday. All in that order, too.

I officially marked A Monster Calls (by Patrick Ness) as a Did Not Finish (DNF). I’ve just lost all interest in the book. Which is slightly upsetting, but I can’t help that I’ve lost interest.

unnamed-26The books I had on my TBR this month were: Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver; since I really want to read the book and eventually watch the movie with my mom. Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard; I really need to finish re-reading this so I can put the book out of my mind! Cryer’s Cross by Lisa McMann; I’ve had the book for a while, and every time I look at my shelf my eyes go to Cryer’s Cross. Evermore by Alyson Noël; I’ve been wanting to re-read Evermore for a few years now, so why not!

I’m leaving May, and entering June reading Before I Fall, as well as Evermore. Let’s see what I read this May! Continue reading

Mechaninca, by Betsy Cornwell | Book Review #206

screen-shot-2017-01-17-at-5-02-42-pm

25897875‘Nicolette’s awful stepsisters call her “Mechanica” to demean her, but the nickname fits: she learned to be an inventor at her mother’s knee. Her mom is gone now, though, and the Steps have pushed her into a life of dreary servitude. When she discovers a secret workshop in the cellar on her sixteenth birthday—and befriends Jules, a tiny magical metal horse—Nicolette starts to imagine a new life for herself. And the timing may be perfect: There’s a technological exposition and a royal ball on the horizon. Determined to invent her own happily-ever-after, Mechanica seeks to wow the prince and eager entrepreneurs alike.’

When I heard that Betsy Cornwell had come out with another book, I was intrigued and excited. Then I heard that her new (at the time) book, Mechanica was a rendition on the Cinderella story, my excitement died down a little. I mean, there were so many Childhood story renditions coming out left, right and centre. However, I held the faith that Mechanica would be interesting.  Continue reading

February Wrap Up

monthly-wrap-up-book-haul-1

Hello friends! Here’s my February Wrap-Up.

It has snowed off and on all of February; which is short of a miracle, I believe. I don’t think it’s snowed in February here in my part of Canada since 2007, maybe? Even the news has said that it’s rare for Vancouver to get this much snow in our Winter season. I think we’ve gotten around 68cm(?) of snow. Usually this happens only every ten years. Anyway, lets get on to reviewing what I’ve done and read this past month, shall we?

unnamed-29My February TBR consisted of four books: Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Illustrated Edition, illustrated by Jim Kay, Hereafter by Tara Hudson, Inhuman by Kat Falls, and Mistwood by Leah Cypress. I unfortunately only got around to reading one of the four books this month (Hereafter). Continue reading

Library Reads # 24

Hello! I hope you’re doing well! If not, I’m so sorry. I hope it gets better.

I went to the library recently, and before even leaving the house, I told myself, “You only need one book” and my brain must’ve taken that as “get all the books.” Continue reading

The Bookish Alphabet | Tag

After scouring wordpress for the pass few days looking for bookish tags to do, I came across The Bookish Alphabet tag! I’ve originally saw it off of KinmSiang’s WordPress account, and I decided to do this tag since I’ve been wanting to diversify my blog a little. Do more stuff on this blog aside from book reviews all the time. So without further do: The Bookish Alphabet tag!

The Rules for this tag are:
Pick a book that is on your shelf or one that you have read in the past and fill out each letter of the Alphabet. The idea is to use books that you have either read or that are on your TBR list.

Seems easy! Continue reading
