September ’18 Wrap Up

Hello friends! It’s now officially the end of September!

Which is slightly upsetting on my part because September is my favourite Autumn month.

IMG_7117I don’t know about you, but for me September screams “new beginnings” to me.  Which is why I figured that at the beginning of September my mind kept reaching for romance novels. Just….romance novels. Which is odd, but I guess it’s the whole coziness that had me lovey-dovey.

Yet I knew that I also wanted to read fantasy books! Characters who are assassins, or characters just finding out that they have magic themselves. Or maybe these characters are falling in love for the first time.. Maybe all three?! I had no idea. But my mind was screaming “romance romance romance” to me, and I had to try and oblige, hahaha.

I had no set TBR for September, but I did want to read a few of the books that I own. Whether that book I read would be a re-read, or reading the story for the first time. Continue reading

Kiss of the Rose Princess Volume 02, by Aya Shouoto | Manga Review #48

Hello friends! These are my thoughts on what happened in the second volume of Kiss of the Rose Princess by Aya Shouoto. Enjoy!

21412475Anise Yamamoto has been told that if she ever removes the rose choker given to her by her father, a terrible punishment will befall her. Unfortunately she loses that choker when a bat-like being falls from the sky and hits her. Anise is granted four cards representing four knights whom she can summon with a kiss. But now that she has these gorgeous men at her beck and call, what exactly is her quest?!

Kiss of the Rose Princess Volume 2 turned out to be an addition that I did not expect! I never thought that the story line would end up going the way it has gone.. Continue reading

Library Reads #40

libraryrreadsLibrary Reads: I’m a huge fan of libraries. I tend to visit the library quite often, and I even come across great finds. These Library Reads’ posts are where I write a tad about the books I’ve borrowed.

In this post I’ll write about what I expect from this novel prior to me actually reading the story. Whether what I say is a sentence long, or a few sentences. From doing these posts I hope to spread a little of my love for libraries and the stories they can give us.

Hello friends! Today I’m posting about the books I’ve borrowed recently from the libraries I go to. If you’ve read any of these books I’d love to know your thoughts on them, or maybe even link your review!

There are quite a few books in this post that I am 100% looking forward to reading. I’ve been in a Fantasy and Mystery binge lately, so if you have any recommendations hand ’em over! I love getting book recommendations.

The following books are the ones I’ve borrowed around the time of late July to the end of August.

This time around I’ve borrowed 12 books and even more manga! Continue reading

The Demon Prince of Momochi House Vol. 01, by Aya Shouoto | Manga Review #47

This review contains spoilers.

23492381On her sixteenth birthday, orphan Himari Momochi inherits her ancestral estate that she’s never seen. Momochi House exists on the barrier between the human and spiritual realms, and Himari is meant to act as guardian between the two worlds. But on the day she moves in, she finds three handsome squatters already living in the house, and one seems to have already taken over her role!

The art that accompanies the story line is genuinely eye catching. And the story itself is very easy to follow. I actually have thoughts about the end of this first volume. I mean, PLOT TWIST, HELLO! Continue reading

Kiss of the Rose Princess, Vol. 01, by Aya Shouoto | Manga Review #44

21412051Anise Yamamoto has been told that if she ever removes the rose choker given to her by her father, a terrible punishment will befall her. Unfortunately she loses that choker when a bat-like being falls from the sky and hits her. Anise is granted four cards representing four knights whom she can summon with a kiss. But now that she has these gorgeous men at her beck and call, what exactly is her quest?!

I legitimately had so much fun reading Kiss of the Rose Princess. This first volume was in my opinion, filled with humour. The story line in this first volume is really light which is what made the book such an enjoyable read.

Any book or story where I manage to laugh more than a few times is a great one in my opinion. And good news! I laughed more than a few times! I found that the characters that make this story to be quite funny—even when they’re not marketed as “funny.” All the characters (Anise, Kaede, Mitsuru, Seiron, Mitsuki, and Ninufa) bring something to the story– they’re all such different personalities, and the way that the characters would react to one another was quite hilarious.

One thing that I am extremely fond of in this first volume was that while there’s focus on the boys, the main focus remained on Anise throughout. Aka, Anise did not get washed away by the boys.

I also genuinely loved the art in this volume. I will always with that manga pages are coloured, but I really enjoyed seeing the bold lines as well as the grey-toned variations in the story’s artwork.

Overall, I loved reading the first volume. So much so that after I finished reading this first volume I went ahead and requested the next 8 volumes from my library!

I give the first volume of Kiss of the Rose Princess, 4 stars!

He’s my Only Vampire Vol.08 + 09 + 10, by Aya Shouoto | Manga Review #40-42

28449211“I will restore your love to you……”

When Eriya offers to help retrieve Aki’s memories, he and Kana begin spending quite a lot of time in each other’s company. Seeing the two of them cozily conspiring together, Aki soon finds himself becoming strangely irritated—-despite the fact that he’s said to have lost all recollection of his love for Kana. And with that, the threads that bind the three together grow even more tangled……

I didn’t have many thoughts concerning this eighth volume. But what I did think of this volume is as follows:

I bet that Aki gets the stigma of Envy.

I don’t like that I’m right in the sense that Eriya is up to no good. This eighth volume pretty much sums up that Eriya is a huge ol’ dumb-dumb.

I don’t like the love-triangle that these three are in.

The plot twist that happens nearing the end of this 8th volume has me very happy.

I give He’s My Only Vampire Volume 08, 3 stars.

He’s My Only Vampire Volume 09

29775372“To think that sharing her with you would let me experience such unthinkable highs…!”

At long last, Aki has regained his memory. However, he and Kana are faced with a painful truth–all along, Kana has actually been Eriya’s thrall! Amid the chaos, the final Stigma appears, and the bloodred ties that bind the players in the game tighten to a stranglehold!

Ok. I’m not even going to say much about this 9th volume because hello spoilers. What I liked about this 9th volume is that the last stigma appeared. Which makes the story feel like it’s at its tipping point. So I know for sure that the 10th volume will be pretty interesting!

He’s My Only Vampire Volume 10

31934031Born together and locked in endless struggle…that leaves us but one fate…

Envy, the final Stigma appears at last…on Kana! To protect her, Aki resolves to battle Eriya in earnest and sets out for Tsubakiin Manor. The tale of the love and blood red bonds shared by the beautiful vampire twins and their thrall comes to a thrilling conclusion!

I expected this last volume to be explosive. And boiiii, my feelings have exploded.

its great seeing Aki being talkative, and actually express himself for once.

It was great reading this last volume. There was quite a bit of action, and I want to say that this 10th volume was a little longer than the previous volumes, but I’m not too sure about that! I can say for sure though that this 10th volume felt pretty long.

There was so much that happened. I want to just spill my guts out and spoil everything. At the same time though, I want to savour the ending and my thoughts on it all to myself. I know that if I don’t write my thoughts down somewhere though, I’ll regret it later.

OK, so, the ending to the story is very bittersweet. I can’t help but wish that everyone got a happier ending and that they were all together as one big happy family. Saying that though…I’m kind of glad that the characters all got their own ending in a way. And sometimes these endings can’t be the ones that we were hoping for.

I can understand why the story ended this way. One, there are a few stories that we left unfinished. Mainly that Kana has AN OLDER SIBLING?! I hate that their story ended too soon.

In the end though, I’m quite happy that Kana and Aki got an ending that they earned. Especially with everything those two had been through in these 10 volumes.

I give He’s My Only Vampire Volume 10, 3 stars!

Happy Reading!

July ’18 Wrap Up + Book Haul

IMG_6383I had a TBR set up for July! I should know better than this, because it never works out for me personally. So if you set up your own little monthly TBR’s that’s great!

The books I had set up on my TBR for July was: Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas, Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick, Ascend by Amanda Hocking, The Beast us an Animal by Peternelle van Arsdale, and finally, The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan. I unknowingly had a fantasy theme going on! Though I did not intend to have it that way…

I ended up not completing/reading all of the books on this months TBR. Of the 5 I had set out to read, I only read one. Which I’m honestly not even upset about. So these books will go back on my shelves in hopes of reading them some other time!  Continue reading

Library Reads #39

libraryrreadsLibrary Reads: I’m a huge fan of Libraries. I tend to visit the library quite a bit, so these posts are where I document the books I’ve borrowed from the library of my hometown, or one of a few libraries that I go to.

I’ll tell you a little bit about what I expect from the book, or the author’s writings. Whether what I say is a sentence long, or a few sentence’s. From doing these posts, I hope to spread a little bit of my love for libraries, while simultaneously informing you of books you may or may have not known of!

Hello friends! Today’s post is about the books I’ve borrowed from the library recently. There are a few so lets get into it! I borrowed these books on June 23rd, and on July 7th. Let me know if you’ve read any of these books!  Continue reading

He’s My Only Vampire Vol.06 + 07, by Aya Shouto | Manga Review #37

25861125“Forgive me. I can no longer love you prettily……”
After Kana regains her memories at Tsubakiin Manor, her feelings for Aki become colored by their shared past. Meanwhile, Aki offers Mishio a certain “deal” in order to rescue Kana. Where will Kana and Aki’s rapidly developing destiny lead them?!!
arrow
Each time I read a manga, I’m amazed at what can be packed into four or so chapters.
Within this 6th volume, we learn the true feelings that Aki has towards Kana, and we learn the feelings that Kana has towards Aki. Over the course of this volume, the story is one that has a lot of misgivings.
Aki does things in trying to save Kana, we learn the consequences that Aki has payed. In  that he jeopardizes himself. We also learn that from a young age Aki has been severely depressed.
Also, at the end of this there was a freaking plot twist! I’m interested in learning how that plot twist turns out to be….
I give this 6th volume, 3 stars!

He’s My Only Vampire Volume 07

27161840“You said you loved me, right?” Kana is heartbroken as Aki treats her with cold indifference after losing all memory of her and their time together. Amid this confusion, Eriya–Aki’s younger twin brother said to have been put in sleep stasis after being nearly killed by Aki–makes his entrance!! What will happen when the blood-soaked vampire twins finally meet again?!

arrow

So I know that in this seventh (7th) volume the twins are reunited, but I can’t help but be a little angry at Eriya.

Volume 07 seems to have gotten out of hand, in my opinion. But I know that there are only 3 other volumes left, with a total of 10, so it’s bound to get a little wacky before the big finale.

In this seventh volume, we see a new character introduced, the history of another, as well as the true extent of what Aki did for Kana’s release.

I’m angry at Eriya, since he seems to be very, very manipulative and that ticks me off soooo much. I can also say with certainty that I despise Eriya in this volume. He might be able to redeem himself in the next volume, or at least by the end of the story. I highly doubt that though.

I have no idea where the story is heading and I’m nervous about that! I kind of want to not read the rest of the books, just to save myself from ruining the story for my future-self. However, I have the last 3 volumes beside me so now I’m off to read them!

I give this seventh volume 2 stars.

Happy Reading!

June 2018 Wrap Up + Mini Book Haul

IMG_6230Hello, friends! How are you doing? — Today’s post is my Wrap Up post for June. We’re already 6 months into the year! The older I get, the faster time flies past me.

My TBR for June was actually only 3 books. These books were Sea of Change by Kelley Armstrong, Graceling by Kristin Cashore, and Eve by Anna Carey.

The first week of June, I actually participated in a readathon, dubbed #goatathon, over on tumblr! Three of the four books that I had planned on reading during the Goatathon were the books I marked as my June TBR! So that worked hand-in-hand for me. Continue reading
