I had everything you could ever want.
The career some would die for.
The friends that always have my back.
And an unmatched level of charm.

I never planned on settling down.
There wasn’t ever a reason to.
Or at least that’s what I thought,
Until she came barreling back into my life.

With long brown hair and hazel eyes,
She has the ability to disarm me with a single look.
And the little girl attached to her side?
She’s the shock I never knew I wanted.

The biggest mistake of my life.

If she were to say the words,

Hendrix was a story I came across on social media, and I didn’t want to expect too much from it. Social media in general tends to hype things up waaay to much in my opinion. However, I’m really good at avoiding spoilers when I want to. I’m just going to say it:

The cruel and beautiful man who ruined my life has everything he wants—everything except me.

Five years ago, Clayton Rorick loved me. Or so I thought. Turned out he only wanted to get his hands on my daddy’s company. Heartbroken, I ran away with nothing but the clothes on my back. Like a twisted Cinderella. When my father dies, leaving my sisters in a desperate situation, it’s up to me to help them.

I’ll have to beg the man who broke my heart to save us.

But Clayton hasn’t forgotten me and what he wants in exchange for his help is…my body, my heart and my soul.

Being as honest as I can possibly be, I found The Tycoon was…an alright story. The Tycoon definitely has ups and downs. One thing that the story as a whole, is, that it’s an emotional rollercoaster.

The Pain Eater, by Beth Goobie | Book Review

The Pain Eater by Beth Goobie.

She hadn’t told anyone. Not a single soul. Not one word about that night and what had been done to her had ever passed Maddy Malone’s lips. She’d thought about it at first – had been desperate, even frantic, to tell. But then had come the shame, and the intimidation from the boys who raped her – and the one who held her down.

Now it’s the beginning of a new school year and Maddy is hoping that she can continue to hide, making herself as quiet and small as possible. She is consumed with keeping the memories at bay, forcing them down through small cuts and the burn from the end of a cigarette. But when her English class is given the assignment of writing a collaborative novel about a fifteen-year-old girl, The Pain Eater, fact and fiction begin to meet up. When the boys spread rumors about Maddy, she realizes that continuing to hide the truth will only give them more control, and she slowly gains the courage to confront them.

The first thing I would say about The Pain Eater is that if you have a Rape Trigger, I suggest to not read this book. There are multiple scenes where Maddy relives her rape, and her rape is talked about quite frequently throughout the novel. As is the PTSD that Maddy endures afterwards.

And please note that I have never been attacked like our main character, Maddy has. My review is simply what I thought of the story and how everything played out.

Even If I Fall by Abigail Johnson | ARC Book Review

A year ago, Brooke Covington lost everything when her beloved older brother, Jason, confessed to the murder of his best friend, Calvin. Brooke’s only solace remains the ice-skating rink, where she works but no longer lets herself dream about a future skating professionally.

When Brooke encounters Calvin’s younger brother, Heath, on the side of the road and offers him a ride, everything changes. She needs someone to talk to…and so does Heath. No one else understands what it’s like. Her brother, alive but gone; his brother, dead but everywhere. Soon, they’re meeting in secret, despite knowing that both families would be horrified if they found out. In the place of his anger and her guilt, something frighteningly tender begins to develop, drawing them ever closer together.

But when a new secret comes out about the murder, Brooke has to choose whose pain she’s willing to live with—her family’s or Heath’s. Because she can’t heal one without hurting the other.

I knew even before sitting down to read this book, that Even If I Fall would be a book that would have trials and tribulations for our main character, Brooke, and the rest of the people in her life.

What I didn’t anticipate was how heavy Brooke’s story turned out to be.

• We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

The first book we have up in this post is We Were Liars. We Were Liars is a book that kept me completely transfixed in the story. So much so that everything that happens completely blew me away and I honestly bawled my eyes out and ugly cried. The reason why I love this book is because Lockhart’s story; the main characters’ story painted such a picture in my mind. The reason why I love this book is because this book made me cry.
