The Fury Queen’s Harem, by Meg Xuimei X. | Book Review

Hello and Welcome to Adele Is Reading.

Today on the blog, I have my book review of:

The Fury Queen’s Harem, by Meg Xuimei X..

The Fury Queen’s Harem is the first in the The Cursed Dragon Queen and Her Mates series.

Trigger Warnings: Sex Scenes, Stabbing, Fighting, Beheading, Death, War, mentions of Enslavement, and Blood.

One hybrid Fury queen. Three pure-blood Dragon Princes. A reverse harem with a dark fairy tale twist and an epic flair!

My name is Daisy. I’ve been cursed to serve a bad-tempered elemental in my beastly form for centuries.

There’s only one way to lift the curse: a kiss from three true loves. To garner even one is nearly impossible. How am I going to get three?

Then three gorgeous-as-sin, yet clueless dragon princes stumble into my lair. Only they do not come to kiss me. They come to slay me without knowing who I really am. Unless they cut the three heads of the Furies–my heads–or make the Fury Queen fall in love with them, they’ll never shift back to dragons.

Not surprisingly, the princes all choose what they think is the easiest–to behead the beasts.

From GoodReads [x]:

“REVERSE HAREM” IS, LITERALLY, THE OPPOSITE OF “HAREM”, WITH A GROUP OF MALES CENTERING ROUND A SINGULAR FEMALE, USUALLY WITH THREE OR MORE MALES. QUITE OFTEN FOUND UNDER THE ROMANCE GENRE.

The Fury Queen’s Harem is quite intriguing indeed. First off, it’s not a wolf-shifter book which I’ve been obsessed with lately. But it IS still a shifter-novel. Dragon shifter, and Fae, to be exact. There are other supernatural species involved in this book, like vampires, demons, and sentient plants who guard their jungle.

Outfoxed, by Skye Cavanagh | Book Review

Hello lovelies! Welcome back to Adele Is Reading.

Today on the blog, I have my book review of:

Outfoxed, by Skye Cavanagh.

Trigger Warnings: Fighting, Blood, *lots of* Sex Scenes, Drugging, Kidnapping, and Murder.
Please note that there may be possible triggers that I’ve missed.

Little fox shifter in a big bad wolf’s world.

My day started like every other day, my colleagues laughing at the tiny fox while I took down a red cap twice my size. It ended with an undercover job with three incredibly hot guys who are now my fake husbands.

This was the stuff of dreams. If the job went well I’d get a promotion and the big undercover jobs would become my norm. Except things never go quite to plan do they?

We were supposed to watch the pack dealing in a deadly and highly illegal drug. Except I spotted something else, something much bigger and more far reaching. Soon we were pulled into the fae courts, the elite dragon houses, and worse; there might be ties to the agency I’d dreamt of working for since I was a little girl.

Time to show the world just how well this tiny fox kicks ass.

This is a standalone reverse harem romance with fake relationships, three smoking hot shifter guys, and a tiny fox heroine with a point to prove.

“REVERSE HAREM” IS, LITERALLY, THE OPPOSITE OF “HAREM”, WITH A GROUP OF MALES CENTERING ROUND A SINGULAR FEMALE, USUALLY WITH THREE OR MORE MALES. QUITE OFTEN FOUND UNDER THE ROMANCE GENRE.

Let’s start off with mentioning that there quite a few sex scenes within Outfoxed. For real. And the last sex scene in the book (pretty much the end scene to this first novel) is one big incredibly detailed and unnessecarily descriptive sex scene that I honestly skimmed over. Now…I’m all for sex scenes in books. However, the last one that I’m mentioning was too much for me. Yikes.

Lost, by M. Sinclair | Book Review

Hello hello! Welcome back to Adele Is Reading.

Today I have my book review of:

Lost, by M. Sinclair.

Lost is the first book in the Silver Frost University series.

Trigger Warnings: Mentions of Abuse, Abuse Flash Backs, Harassment, Mentions of Sexual Abuse, Mentions of Physical Abuse, Mentions of Emotional Abuse.

Note that there may be triggers that I’ve missed, or forgotten.

Broken alphas. A lost wolf. A fate she never expected.

Silver Falls University. There was no reason for a female bitten wolf like myself to be here. More so, there was no reason that someone who grew up as poor as I did, in an overcrowded pack house in the South side of Chicago, should be making her way up north to one of the most prestigious supernatural universities in the country.
I truly had no idea what to expect. Something that was my own fault. I didn’t exactly have a lot of experience with anyone or anything. Sheltered was an understatement, except to the darkness that came with struggling to survive cruel bullying and an incurable loneliness that had formed the woman I was today.
The place I had grown up, never felt like home. No one had ever felt like home.
Well, until I meet a man on the way to campus. A man that had me feeling so completely comfortable yet confused and overwhelmed. There had to be something wrong with me, right? This wasn’t normal. Then again, I should have realized that nothing about my life moving forward would be normal.
I just didn’t realize how much was in store for me.

Join Effie Harlow on her journey at Silver Falls University, where she begins to realize that something about her is different. This reverse harem paranormal romance features five protective and possessive wolf shifters that are bound and determined to keep Effie by their side, no matter what. To prove to her that she is so much more than anyone had ever tried to tell her she was. Will they be able to convince her of her place at Silver Falls and in their life? Or will Effie get lost in the university crowds like she did back home? Find out in this first installment of the Silver Falls University Series. Lost is the 1st book in the Silver Falls University out of 5.

Warning: This PNR University style RH will contain swearing, adult sexual content +18, elements of PTSD and prior abuse, violence, and additional darker themes.

Wild Moon, by C.R. Jane & Mila Young | Book Review

Hello hello, and welcome back to Adele Is Reading.

On the blog today I have a book review! Today’s book review is of:

Wild Moon, by C.R. Jane & Mila Young.

Wild Moon is the first book in the Real Wolves Bite series.

Trigger Warnings include: mentions of Abuse, Abuse, mentions of Blood, Blood, mentions of Stalking, Stalking, mentions of Fighting, Fighting, mentions of Murder, Murder.

NOTE: By the time that this review is posted, it’s over a year old, and it had been sitting in my digibujo for even longer. And yes, my review is messy as hell. As usual! Haha.

REAL WOLVES BITE…

I was taught my whole life about the importance of true mates, how when you find that one wolf for you, everything falls into place.

Everyone who taught me that was a liar.

When I found my true mate, happily ever after sure as hell didn’t start, but hell definitely began.

I ran away, and now I’ve been searching for peace for weeks as I drive around the country.

I didn’t mean to take the wrong road.

I didn’t mean to make it to that small town.

And I didn’t mean to meet two men, who set me and my wolf on fire.

But here I am somehow, and peace is the last thing I’ve found.

And don’t forget about the serial killer…

This is a Rejected Mate series, filled with scorching hot wolf shifters who take what they want, enough steam to burn you up, and a hidden town filled with secrets. You’ll love this paranormal romance if you love True Blood, Twilight, or Vampire Diaries.

Wild Moon is book 1 in a new wolf shifter trilogy by C.R. Jane and Mila Young. More books coming in this series.

Mave Fortune, by Elizabeth Dear | Book Review

Hello hello! Welcome back to Adele Is Reading.

Today I have my book review of:

Mave Fortune, by Elizabeth Dear.

Mave Fortune is the first book in the Blackstone Academy series.

Trigger Warnings include: Sexism, Homophobia, Bullying, Partner abuse, Manipulation, Drugging, Kidnapping, Beating/Torture, Fighting, Blood, Gun Shot, Stabbing, Underage drinking, and sexual content.

Please note that there may have been a few possible triggers that I may have missed.

When my family left our small, ultra-conservative pack back in Utah to join a giant pack in Northwest Louisiana, I thought I’d be able to coast through my last year of high school in semi-anonymity, then get the fuck away from wolf pack politics and just live my life for awhile. But the Moon decided to prolong my torture by placing my fated mate in front of my face on my first day at Blackstone Academy. He’s the Alpha’s son and king of a school crawling with shifters, and it turns out he doesn’t care to be saddled with a Moon-chosen mate who he thinks is a nobody-omega wolf.

When he rejects me in front of every shifter in school, I vow to harden my heart, become impervious to the constant, deep hurt of the rejection, and figure out how to be the first wolf in known history to shake the taint of a rejected fated mate bond.

I’m also becoming closer to a new student—a smoking hot and intriguing human, who I can’t manage to scare off even with the drama that surrounds me and the poisonous pack politics that I can’t seem to escape. I can’t even tell him what’s really going on, but I think he’s keeping secrets from me, too.

I’m Mave Fortune, and my mate threw me out like yesterday’s garbage. But fuck that guy.

This is a new adult, M/F rejected mates standalone story. It is intended for the 18+ crowd and contains foul language, some mild violence, and sexual scenes. If you’re a fan of upper YA/NA, wolf shifters, academy romances and the tropes associated with each, dive right in!

Let me start off this book review by saying that while I was interested in reading the story, I had a huge inkling that Mave Fortune was going to be a tough read.

And boy was I wrong. I read and ended up loving Mave Fortune and her story.

Van Helsing Rising, by Helen Scott | Book Review

Hello and welcome to Adele Is Reading.
Today on my blog I have my book review of:

Van Helsing Rising, by Helen Scott.

Van Helsing Rising is the first book in the Immortal Hunters MC series.

Trigger / Content Warnings: Abuse, Abuse from parent, Child Abandonment, Alcoholism / Alcoholic parent mention, Kidnapping, Abusive (past) partner mention, Fighting, Blood, Sexual Scenes, Drugging, Torture mention.

Please note that there are possibly more triggers within Van Helsing Rising that I may have missed.

I am an experiment, data to be collected, nothing but a number.

At least that was how my life had been until I was rescued by the most unlikely group of men.

Rescued might be too strong a word though.

The men of the Immortal Hunters Motorcycle Club aren’t exactly friendly. And when I find myself locked in a cage, yet again, I begin to question their intentions. They aren’t a regular MC though. Yes, they are heartless, merciless, violent, chaotic… but it’s all in the name of saving humans from supernaturals.

These men are tortured, each one stuck living with the demons of their pasts, and some of the sexiest men I’ve ever seen. Even if they are a little psychotic.

I can’t get attached though. Not when my life is on the line. And definitely not when I find out that I might be more dangerous than all of them combined.

Van Helsing Rising was a good story–I’ll give it that. The story overall was one that I enjoyed, and there’s nothing about the book or the story that I would complain about. Which is great.

The Rise of Eden, by Storm Song | Book Review

Hello and welcome to Adele Is Reading.
Today on the blog I have my book review of:

The Rise of Eden, by Storm Song.

The Rise of Eden is the third book in the Elemental Eden series.

Trigger / Content Warning: Sex Scenes, Sex Scenes with Multiple Partners, Fighting, Broken Leg / Broken Bones mention (and scene; not Eden herself).

Please note that it is entirely possible that I didn’t capture all of the possible triggers.

The time cures has been shattered, but so has everything I thought was true.

With more questions than answers I restarted the clock.

My race to save the elemental districts has started again, but this time I don’t even know who I’m really fighting against.

But what if, the person I hate the most, is the person I need to unlock my ultimate powers and save everything I’ve ever loved.

Crap.

The Rise of Eden was pretty good! I read this right after finishing The Dark Eden (book 2). Let me tell you, this third book is one hell of a whirlwind.

Today on the blog, I have my book review of:

Dear Heart, You Screwed Me, by Ashlee Rose.

Trigger / Content Warnings: Death of a loved one (partner), mention of Car Accident resulting in death, Grief, Sex Scenes, (Accidental) Pregnancy.

Dear Heart,

I can’t believe I am even writing this.
I wanted a fresh start, to follow a new dream that I had to find after I lost Elijah.

Moving to New York was the best thing for me.
I had it all planned out.
New Friends, New Job and a New Adventure.

And a new adventure I had.

My best friend’s dad.
It was supposed to be a taboo fling… but it was so much more.

We were tied together by more than a mutual connection.
It ran deeper than blood.

The thought of starting over again petrified me, but here I am, ready for a new beginning and the new adventure I craved, it just wasn’t the one I had planned.

Dear Heart, you screwed me.

Dear Heart, You Screwed Me is such an emotionally charged story.

The Dark Eden, by Storm Song | Book Review

Hello and welcome to Adele Is Reading!
Today on the blog I have my book review of:

The Dark Eden, by Storm Song.

The Dark Eden is the second book in the Elemental Eden series.

Trigger / Content Warning: Sex, Fighting.

Please Note that there is a chance that I didn’t get around to noting all the possible triggers within The Dark Eden.

Fire destroys everything it touches.

The elemental carriers were right when they said that it was the most potent gift.

Ever since I unlocked mine, my mind hasn’t felt the same.

It was a surge of power I wasn’t expecting, but now I’m out for vengeance.

Vengeance against Asher, Jade, and anyone who’s ever done me wrong.

I’m not the lost eden anymore, now I’m dark- and there’s no turning back.

There are spoilers for The Dark Eden within this post. Please read at your own discretion.

Hendrix, by Kelsey Clayton | Book Review

Hello and welcome to Adele Is Reading.
Today on the blog, is my book review of:

Hendrix, by Kelsey Clayton.

Hendrix is the first book in a companion series. Each book can be read as a standalone.

Triggers / Content Warnings: Drug Abuse mention, Physical Abuse, Physical Abuse mention, Partner Abuse, Partner Abuse mention, Alcohol mention, sex scene (fade to black), Pregnancy mention, Pregnancy.

I’m Colby Hendrix.
Football Legend.
Notorious Playboy.
Sarcasm Extraordinaire.

I had everything you could ever want.
The career some would die for.
The friends that always have my back.
And an unmatched level of charm.

I never planned on settling down.
There wasn’t ever a reason to.
Or at least that’s what I thought,
Until she came barreling back into my life.

With long brown hair and hazel eyes,
She has the ability to disarm me with a single look.
And the little girl attached to her side?
She’s the shock I never knew I wanted.

The biggest mistake of my life.
The only woman I’ve ever loved.
If she were to say the words,
I might just give up everything for her.

Hendrix was a story I came across on social media, and I didn’t want to expect too much from it. Social media in general tends to hype things up waaay to much in my opinion. However, I’m really good at avoiding spoilers when I want to. I’m just going to say it:
