Hello, and welcome back to Adele Is Reading!
Today on the blog I have my book review of:
A Crown of Blood and Bone, by Sloane Murphy.
A Crown of Blood and Bone is the first book in The Shadow Walkers Saga.
Trigger / Content Warnings: Sex scenes, mentions of Death, Death scenes, Gun Shot wound/scenes.
Not all monsters are what they seem.
“You’re a Hunter, Remy.”
Those four words changed my life.
One minute, I’m human, engaged, and ready to start my life.
Then my twenty-first birthday rocks round, bringing with it the biggest god damn shock of my life.I’m a Hunter. Nephillim. Monsters are real, And this isn’t my first life.
With more secrets than I could have ever believed, and a world so far from what I thought I knew.
My enemies are not who they seem, and this world isn’t just black and white.
From GoodReads [x]:
“REVERSE HAREM” IS, LITERALLY, THE OPPOSITE OF “HAREM”, WITH A GROUP OF MALES CENTERING ROUND A SINGULAR FEMALE, USUALLY WITH THREE OR MORE MALES. QUITE OFTEN FOUND UNDER THE ROMANCE GENRE.
So.. I had trouble with reading A Crown of Blood and Bone, since a lot of both the dialogue and story telling seemed to be…stunted and forced.
Aside from that, the pace of plot was quite fast! I enjoyed that about this book. Within this first Shadow Walkers book, there’s only one point of view. That’s another thing that I enjoyed about this book. I don’t know how I’d feel about A Crown of Blood and Bone, if there were more than one point of view.
There’s quite a bit of bigotry within A Crown of Blood and Bone, and I wonder if that’s another thing that really fucked with my perception of the story.
Nevertheless, I actually liked how A Crown of Blood and Bone ended. I don’t mind the cliffhanger at all, and in fact, I’m looking forward to reading the second book (hopefully) soon. I don’t actually like cliffhangers, but how the author pulled the end of this first book off was very entertaining. — Not to mention, intriguing. In actuality, I ended up laughing and clapping..thankfully I finished reading A Crown of Blood and Bone during the day, so I didn’t wake anyone up.
What I’m not looking forward to in the next novel is how Remi’s family will react to her, now that she didn’t meet her death like they had wanted to.
Overall, I ended up giving A Crown of Blood and Bone, 3 stars.
ACOBAB definitely has a rocky start to the 6-part series, but, this first book was worth it. I hope the series gets better with each novel.
Have you read A Crown of Blood and Bone?
