Head Above Water, by Hailey Edwards | Book Review

Hello friends! Welcome back to Adele Is Reading — today I have my book review of

Head Above Water, by Hailey Edwards.

Head Above Water is the second book in the Gemini series, as well as the second book to Camille’s story.

Trigger / Content Warning: Child Murder, Child Murder mention, Grief, Loss of a sibling mention.

0D61ED7F-C5FB-4D00-8E1E-D8FA6C73902DCamille Ellis has tracked many killers during her career, but this time it’s personal. Cut off from conclave resources, she won’t let a small thing like a suspension keep her from accepting Cord Graeson’s offer of help.

Pretending to be mated to him is one way to secure allies, but the best that can be said of the Chandler Pack is they haven’t killed or eaten her. Yet. Between the alpha’s displeasure and the pack’s distrust of fae, she’s working overtime to keep her head above water.

Just when the fur starts to fly, a tip cracks her case–and her life–wide open.

Even though Head above Water might be a shorter novel, this second Gemini book packs a mean punch. We learned quite a bit about the characters and their personal histories.

There’s quite a bit of mystery that’s going on as well. And though I like the fact the mystery and character’s lives are woven and intermingled, I wish there were moments when the story would just focus on one thing at a time.

I will admit though that the romance that is slowly beginning to brew between Camille and Graeson is quite the spectacle to be had. It’s obvious that Graeson has claimed Camille as his own, but for Camille–she has to look at things realistically a lot, and frankly, I find that that’s put a damper of sorts on Camille’s life.

Something that I immensely enjoy about the first two Gemini books is that there’s only one point of view. Now I currently don’t know about the rest of the Gemini series; there could be more that one point of view that develops in the coming novels. For the story’s sake though, I hope that Camille’s point of view is the only one that we read from.

I’m rating Head Above Water, 3 stars.
