First Lines Fridays #22

first-lines-fridays

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines? If you want to make your own post, feel free to use or edit the banner above, and follow the rules below:

  1. Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page
  2. Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first
  3. Finally… reveal the book!

If you’re using Twitter, don’t forget to use #FirstLinesFridays!

Hello friends, welcome back to Adele Is Reading!

Today’s post is another First Lines Fridays! I’m trying not to post these every week, just because I for sure know that I’d run out of books to take from.

Today’s author is one that I’ve read from in the past, and I actually loved one of their early series, back when I was around 14-years-old! 13 years ago now, wow. Time flies.

I have to.

I’ve been fighting it all night. I’m going to lose. My battle is as futile as a woman feeling the first pangs of labor and deciding it’s an inconvenient time to give birth. Nature wins out. It always does.

Bitten (Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong — Adult, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance

Elena Michaels is the world’s only female werewolf. And she’s tired of it. Tired of a life spent hiding and protecting, a life where her most important job is hunting down rogue werewolves. Tired of a world that not only accepts the worst in her–her temper, her violence–but requires it. Worst of all, she realizes she’s growing content with that life, with being that person.

So she left the Pack and returned to Toronto where she’s trying to live as a human. When the Pack leader calls asking for her help fighting a sudden uprising, she only agrees because she owes him. Once this is over, she’ll be squared with the Pack and free to live life as a human. Which is what she wants. Really.

Fun fact!: By creating this post I’ve discovered that Bitten was published only about a year after The Summoning was published. I’m kinda glad that 15-year-old me didn’t discover this book by then, ’cause wowee, I have no idea how I would’ve taken the story in.

I know next to nothing about Bitten, aside from the fact that the entire series is perceived as this erotica-filled story. Lots of sex, lots of blood, murder, and of course, shifting. ‘Cause ya know, werewolves. I also remember that this series became televised around the same year it was published.

Have you read Bitten? What’d you think of it?

Thank you for stopping by!

See you soon, and Happy Reading.
