Wolf’s Bane, by Crystal Ash | Book Review

Hello friend! Welcome back to Adele Is Reading.

Today’s post is a book review! I’m slowly but surely catching up on the past year of reviews, friends. I didn’t want to bombard anyone so I’ve been staying up late to draft, and schedule them all. @~@; my poor eyes >_<.

Here’s my review of Wolf’s Bane, by Crystal Ash.

Wolf’s Bane is the first book in the Shifted Mates trilogy.

Trigger Warnings: Gun Usage, Gun Violence, Violence, Attempted Rape, Murder, and Blood.

He stole a kiss and ran off with my heart between his teeth.I should’ve expected as much from a wolf.I’m a fox shifter in a world run by humans. They treat us like we’re beneath them, and shoot us when they have the chance. I’ll do anything to protect my family, so I learned how to shoot back. My aim is true and I’m just waiting for someone to piss off the wrong vixen. Turns out, we have bigger threats than humans. Orion, the smoldering silver wolf, reappears suddenly and my heart can’t handle it. I refuse to let him hurt me again, but he’s here to warn me about a greater evil. The same one that plagued him that night, when I saw him through the crack in the door years ago.All I ever wanted was get over him and settle down with another fox. I just met a cute one named Conan too. But when shifters are being sacrificed for dark magic, a girl’s got to take aim and fire.

From GoodReads [x]:

“REVERSE HAREM” IS, LITERALLY, THE OPPOSITE OF “HAREM”, WITH A GROUP OF MALES CENTERING ROUND A SINGULAR FEMALE, USUALLY WITH THREE OR MORE MALES. QUITE OFTEN FOUND UNDER THE ROMANCE GENRE.

My review today is super small! That’s what I get for not taking better notes while I’m reading.

Wolf’s Bane had an entertaining start to the trilogy. I didn’t truly know what to expect going into WB, but I certainly liked how Alpha our main character, Astrid, tries to be.

Something that I had admired at the end of Wolf’s Bane was how Astrid and Owen had never stopped caring for one another. Of course their care for each other was very different–they both had their ways of showing or not showing how they cared for one another.

Though we read from Astrid most of the time, I also like the different points of view the story has.

However, by the end of Wolf’s Bane, there was something going on surrounding Orion’s now presumed “dead” wife. Ultimately I think that in itself was what made me wary of the second book, Fox Tale.

I’m at an impasse: should I read Fox Tale because I want to know what happens, or do I let the story go just so I don’t have to deal with my predictions about Orion’s wife?

Let me know if you’ve read Wolf’s Bane. I genuinely want to know you thought about it. Have you read anything else by Crystal Ash?

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my nonsensical book review! Haha.

Happy Reading!
