Hey lovelies! Today I have my book review of
Synergy, by Belle Roberts.
Synergy is the first book in The Ether trilogy.
Trigger Warning: Gun, Stalking, Attempted Murder, Death mention, Murder mention.
For the past five years, that’s all I’ve known, which was why escaping to Olsen Bay was supposed to be a new start. A safe haven we could call home… A place I could finally be free.
But Fate had other plans.
Four beautiful, tall, handsome and broad-shouldered men with crystal clear eyes walk into my life, and I’m captivated.
They’re mysterious and intriguing, and something about them has me gravitating in their direction until things start to happen that I can’t explain. Suddenly, everything I thought I knew about myself, my parents, and the world around me is thrown into jeopardy.
Who are they? What do they want from me? And why?
Between them, the pendant, and unexplainable magic happenings, I’m about to make a startling discovery. One that could change the course of my life for good. Or, could it be bad?
My name is Ella Anderson, and with the help of my Guardians, this is how I saved our world.
Synergy: A Reverse Harem Romance is Book One of The Ether series. Book Two, Sanctum, and Book Three, Supernova, will be out soon.
From GoodReads [x]:
“REVERSE HAREM” IS, LITERALLY, THE OPPOSITE OF “HAREM”, WITH A GROUP OF MALES CENTERING ROUND A SINGULAR FEMALE, USUALLY WITH THREE OR MORE MALES. QUITE OFTEN FOUND UNDER THE ROMANCE GENRE.
There is only one point of view within Synergy, and that point of view is from Ella. Ella is a trusting person, but she’s so over the secrets and lies that have surrounded her life for the last handful of years. And she’s had enough.
What I liked about Synergy was how the plot isn’t revealed to us right away. In fact, the main character herself doesn’t exactly know what’s going on herself until about… I want to say just under the first half of the book.
Lots of action in Synergy which makes the story move along faster, but I will say that during…just after the middle of the story, I felt like I was reading a book. I wasn’t as immersed in the story as I was during the beginning.
There’s insta-romance, which makes sense when we get to know the history of the characters and the situation. I actually really liked how Ella could connect with the guys. And yes, there are sex scenes, but they aren’t super kinky or anything.
The ending of Synergy was actually hugely anticlimactic. In my opinion the ending was a severe let down–enough that I don’t have an interest in reading the second book.
Overall, Synergy just isn’t the book for me, unfortunately.
I give Synergy, 2 stars.
Have you read Synergy? What’d you think of it?
It was alright, and I’m not very interested in reading the rest of the series…
Thank you for stopping by!
See you soon, and Happy Reading!
