Winter Queen, by Skye MacKinnon | Book Review

Hello friends, today I have my review of Winter Queen, by Skye MacKinnon

Winter Queen is the third book in the Daughter of Winter series.

Trigger / Content Warnings: Rape Mention, Abuse Mention

38461543“They say grief passes. They say the pain gets less.
Well, I don’t want it to go. I don’t want it to stop hurting.
The pain helps me function and get through the day. And it helps me focus on one thing: revenge.”

The Morrigan needs to die, no question about that. But first, Wyn and her Guardians need to find her.

While the Realm prepares for war, allies arrive from unexpected places. But there are enemies hiding in plain sight that could stop the war before it’s even begun.

Can Wyn destroy the Morrigan without sacrificing the lives of her loved ones?

From GoodReads [x]:

“REVERSE HAREM” IS, LITERALLY, THE OPPOSITE OF “HAREM”, WITH A GROUP OF MALES CENTERING ROUND A SINGULAR FEMALE, USUALLY WITH THREE OR MORE MALES. QUITE OFTEN FOUND UNDER THE ROMANCE GENRE.

Winter Queen just might be the fastest book in this series yet. Winter Queen is probably the fastest book in terms of plot building. MacKinnon has put so much into each of the Daughter of Winter books. I’m slightly awestruck in just how much story is told in each Daughter of Winter instalment.

What made me read Winter Queen so quickly was that in the first, I don’t know, third of Winter Queen, it seemed like problem after problem was striking Wyn over and over again. Everything happened so quickly it was like BAM-BAM-BAM. Wyn just couldnt catch a break for the first bit.

There’s a God that’s introduced within Winter Queen and I am still laughing about it. I didn’t expect that God to come into play within this third book, but I am so glad that he did. This God brought some much needed light (pun unintended, I swear), to an otherwise

Wyn had an incredibly realistic response to her grief in this novel. And I’m glad that Wyn got through her grief. Even though it was almost like a huge slap to Wyn’s face with a huge “GET OVER IT” stamp marked on her grief.

The further that we get into reading Winter Queen, the more Wyn starts taking on a more authoritative role within the Winter Realm. And honestly, the further along we get into reading Winter Queen, the more the book opened up.

There were moments here and there that bummed me out. That’s okay though because there were just as much happy moments within Winter Queen as well.

The ending to this third book had me so freaking happy I couldn’t contain myself.

I’m ready for the fight in the next novel, and I think it’ll be a good one, if not the best yet.

I obviously enjoyed reading Winter Queen, so I’m giving it, 5 stars.
