Hello friends! Today I have my review of The Dark Ones by Rachel Van Dyken.
The Dark Ones is the first book in The Dark Ones Saga.
Trigger / Content Warning: Sex, Blood, Kidnapping, Murder Mention, Suicide, Childhood Abuse
To touch a Dark One is death.
To talk to an immortal is suicide.
Yet, I’ve been marked by both.
A Vampire.
And the King of the immortals.
My life is no longer my own.
And now I know the truth, my life was never mine to begin with.
It was theirs.
It’s always been theirs.
I for sure thought that The Dark Ones would have a polyamorous relationship within the book. The synopsis was very deceiving before I actually finished The Dark Ones. Reading the synopsis now though, makes so much sense. Very sneaky. I like it.
Basically when I downloaded The Dark Ones, I believed that I wouldn’t like the story. In fact, I was prepared for it. The synopsis seemed to be hiding something, and I didn’t want that something to be hurtful to the lady of this novel.
Imagine my surprise when I found The Dark Ones become more interesting. Another thing The Dark Ones had going for it was the fast pace that was kept up throughout the novel.
Truth be told, I 100% thought the characters within this novel were dramatic AF (lol). However, their dramatics were nevertheless entertaining.
I’m glad that we got to meet the characters on a more personal level which was honestly a great set up for their own books.
Though we aren’t given much backstory of the world within this first book, I admired how easily I could follow along with the story—and how much we got to know the world surrounding The Dark Ones–both human or otherwise–in the little bits that we read them in.
I believe that The Dark Ones can be read as a stand-alone since the following books in the series are companion novels
I enjoyed reading from both points of view within The Dark Ones. These dual points of view are very unique to the story, and I’m fond of how these two bring out the best in each other.
I am relieved and happy with how this story ended.
I give The Dark Ones, 3.5 stars.
Have you read The Dark Ones? What did you think of it?
Thank you for stopping by!
See you soon, and Happy Reading!
