Hello friends! Today I have my review of An Assassin’s Death by A.K. Koonce, and Harper Wylde
An Assassin’s Death is the first book in The Huntress duology/series.
Trigger/ Content Warnings: Sex scenes, Attempted Murder, Murder
If you don’t like reading about sex scenes, or reading pretty smutty scenes in general, I would advise you to not read An Assassin’s Death.
As an assassin of the Lifeless League, there are two rules I live by:
1. Never kill another hunter.
2. Obey orders.
When I find that my newest set of targets are branded with the Mark of the Hunter, I don’t know who I can trust anymore. I can’t take their lives without knowing why these mysterious men turned their backs on the League.
A choice will have to be made eventually. Even if they refuse to make anything easy for me. The four brooding ex-assassins give me trials, training, and tests to study my unusual powers and prove myself as one of them. A deadly plan is now in place but they’ve all made one grave mistake: Underestimating me. Because I’m adding a third and final rule to my list:
3. Survive.
This is a Reverse Harem Series, recommended for readers 18 and over.
From GoodReads [x]:
“Reverse harem” is, literally, the opposite of “harem”, with a group of males centering round a singular female, usually with three or more males. Quite often found under the romance genre.
I bought An Assassin’s Death on the whim that there would be some smutty scenes. And though I wasn’t disappointed, I genuinely thought that there would be more than the few that were included within this first book. I have a theory as to why there were so little smut scenes (more on that later).
The plot was very intriguing. We aren’t really given any details on the characters that are involved in An Assassin’s Death. I liked how An Assassin’s Death played out.
I actually really liked where the story went in this first book. I quite enjoyed seeing Alexa come into herself, and not be seen as a disposable thing that’s Alexa is seen as for at least 96% of this novel.
In terms of romance, there’s not really any romance in this novel. I found that the “romance” was actually Alexa being treated like the human she is (for once). Aside from the romance though there’s quite an amount of sexy scenes within An Assassin’s Death. I found that I didn’t mind the sexy scenes.
Not that I’m making a pun about the sex scenes (loooool) but the action scenes were quite enjoyable to read as well. I liked how we saw Alexa figure out a part of herself that she didn’t even know that she had.
Now, about that prediction I have about the series. I believe that as we progress deeper into The Huntress series the more intimate Alexa will be with the guys.
I give An Assassin’s Death, 3 stars.
Have you read a Reverse Harem story before? Have you read An Assassin’s Death? What did you think of it?
Thank you for stopping by!
See you soon, and Happy Reading!
