Hello friends! Today I have my review of
Almost Midnight: Two Festive Short Stories by Rainbow Rowell, Illustrated by Simini Blocker.
Midnights is the story of Noel and Mags, who meet at the same New Year’s Eve party every year and fall a little more in love each time . . .
Kindred Spirits is about Elena, who decides to queue to see the new Star Wars movie and meets Gabe, a fellow fan.
Midnights was previously published as part of the My True Love Gave to Me anthology, edited by Stephanie Perkins and Kindred Spirits was previously published as a World Book Day title.
Since these two stories are short stories, my reviews will also be on the smaller side.
Enjoy!
Midnights
Midnights was the shorter read of the two short stories. Still, as short as the story was, we got to know Mags and Noel exceptionally well. Especially so since Midnights is only 62 pages long.
I’ll admit that there were times in Midnight where Noel really got on my nerves. Though at times, I’ve got to admit that Mags pissed me off as well.
Nevertheless, I genuinely enjoyed reading Noel and Mags’ story.
I give Midnights, 3 stars.
Kindred Spirits
Kindred Spirits is unbelievably and undeniably cute!
I genuinely adore whatever is happening between Elena and Gabe. If they remained as friends, cute. If they become something more, still cute.
I say this because the ending for Elena and Gabes story isn’t concrete. The ending is more of a wish. A beginning, if you will. We don’t end up knowing their story. I still really enjoyed reading Kindred Spirits though.
I give Kindred Spirits, 4 stars.
Overall both stories in Almost midnight were cute and enjoyable. I also liked the artwork by Simini Blocker that accompanied both Midnights, and Kindred Spirits.
I give Almost Midnight, 3.5 stars.
Have you read either of these two stories? What did you think of them?
Thank you for stopping by!
See you soon, and Happy Reading!
Adele
This duo of short stories looks so cute! I love Midnights and am curious to read the other one and see its illustrations.
