Save the Date, by Morgan Matson | {ARC} Book Review #362

Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada for allowing me to read Save the Date by Morgan Matson, in exchange for an honest review.

32333338Charlie Grant’s older sister is getting married this weekend at their family home, and Charlie can’t wait—for the first time in years, all four of her older siblings will be under one roof. Charlie is desperate for one last perfect weekend, before the house is sold and everything changes. The house will be filled with jokes and games and laughs again. Making decisions about things like what college to attend and reuniting with longstanding crush Jesse Foster—all that can wait. She wants to focus on making the weekend perfect.

The only problem? The weekend is shaping up to be an absolute disaster.

There’s the unexpected dog with a penchant for howling, house alarm that won’t stop going off, and a papergirl with a grudge.

There are the relatives who aren’t speaking, the (awful) girl her favorite brother brought home unannounced, and a missing tuxedo.

Not to mention the neighbor who seems to be bent on sabotage and a storm that is bent on drenching everything. The justice of the peace is missing. The band will only play covers. The guests are all crazy. And the wedding planner’s nephew is unexpectedly, distractingly…cute.

Over the course of three ridiculously chaotic days, Charlie will learn more than she ever expected about the family she thought she knew by heart. And she’ll realize that sometimes, trying to keep everything like it was in the past means missing out on the future.

Publication Date: June 05, 2018.

I was so excited to read Save the Date. I’ve read two previous works of Morgan Matson before and I enjoyed those novels, so when there was a chance to read Save the Date, I took a leap and requested this novel. I’m so glad I took that leap!

I’m not going to lie here (nor do I want to, but) I had a somewhat difficult time reading Save the Date. There were moments where I didn’t know if I could, or would, finish reading Charlies story, just because Charlie’s anxieties were a little too much for me. Nevertheless, I persisted and finished reading Save the Date! I’m glad I did.

I didn’t like Charlie’s story as much as I had previously wanted to… I still ended up enjoying this peek into Charlie’s life though. And for a book that only roughly takes place over the course of 3 days, there was a lot packed into it!

In the beginning, I didn’t know how the comic strips would come into play, but I’m super glad that we the reader get to know the story behind them.

I enjoyed getting to know Charlie’s family. Right from the beginning, their antics had me laughing my butt off! In no time at all I was already feeling like I was part of the Grant family.

The synopsis for Save the Date says that there’s chaos in this book and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Actually, there was so much chaos that I had to take a few breathers here and there to calm myself down — so much happened. The chaos was both glorious, fun and incredibly entertaining. Yet the chaos was also laborious, too. I wanted to see what happened, and what would take place later on, and how the story ended. I’m glad that I didn’t skip any chapters in this one!

And lastly, I’m glad that Charlie didn’t fall into the pressure of having sex.

I give Save the Date, 3.5 stars!

Happy Reading!
