For Shade, a chance meeting with a powerful Teleen faery warrior who wields electrical currents and blue fires along his skin has her joining him on a treacherous mission for the good Seelie Faerie Court across the land of Faerie. Magic and malice abound and nothing is what it really seems to be.
The evil Unseelie Queen and her treacherous allies are round every corner as Shade makes her way across the breathtaking landscapes of the world of Faerie, which exists alongside the mundane human world. Shade discovers her own uncharted magic and meets some of the most powerful warriors in Faerie while battling evil dryads, conniving Teleen guards and challenges on her life with every step in a world where nothing can be taken for granted.”
Ever Shade by Alexia Purdy is a Young Adult Paranormal/Fantasy novel.
I was weary of Ever Shade prior to reading the novel. Now that I have read the book however, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed the happenings. ….Save for a few things along the way.
Honestly, the imagination that Purdy has regarding the settings and whereabouts of the Fae world is just….brilliant. There’s a great layout of the story, which I could clearly see in my imagination. There were times where I had to stifle my laughter because it was past midnight, and if I had laughed, I would have risked waking people up.
I really love the main character, Shade. Shade is great; she’s is inquisitive, which leads her (and us) on the journey of her adventure/mission. And along the way when she learns things about this Fae world, and as she learns things, so do we. Which is a great, because then we’re also somewhat included in the story as well. — I appreciate Shade’s Fae powers, too. While reading we don’t see much of anything related to Shade’s powers but from what we do see, I’m dubbing her the ‘cursebreaker’.
As to what happens next in the story — I have no idea! I haven’t been able to get my hands on the second book, Ever Fire, yet. I’m incredibly intrigued as to how the next book goes, and how everything turns out in Ever Fire. There are so many things that could happen!
One thing that I didn’t like though was how everything seem to fall into place so evenly. And the story does have that “Once upon a time” feel to it, which I didn’t exactly enjoy, but I didn’t hate it either, so I was just oaky with it. I also feel as though there were some scenes that were forced into being.
When everything is said and done with, I still really enjoyed reading the novel. I loved reading the troubles between some characters. I absolutely enjoyed the almost-but-not-quite-there-yet romance between Shade and another character buuuut, I hope to see more of that in Ever Fire.
I ended up giving Ever Shade 4 of 5 stars on Goodreads.
That’s all I have for my review of Ever Shade. Thank you so much for checking it out!
Happy Reading!
Adele
