Where did the time go this January? I swear time both froze and sped up. I don’t know what to say actually!! A lot has happened this month. Shadow Hunters aired on TV. Since I’m in Canada though, I have to watch it on Netflix. – I’m also thinking of re-reading the TMI / TID series?? I have no idea if I should. – Hmm. What else has happened…. My cousins birthday was on the 29th. I gained a follower here on WordPress, haha. Slowly but surely, my following is growing!!
In the month of January, I posted a some reviews, posted 2 Friday Finds, read 9 books, and was allowed access to an ARC! And of course, bought 5 books…
The first book I read was Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky. I didn’t like Awaken as much as I thought I would. I am glad though that I have another book off of my To Be Read list! You can read my review for Awaken, here.
The second book I read was Midnight Thief by Livia Blackburne. I loved this book! I actually borrowed this book from the library, and because I love it so much I actually want to buy a copy. I just don’t know if I should buy a physical copy, or a digital copy. I enjoyed reading Midnight Thief because of the story in of itself, and because of the Demon Riders!! You can read my review of Midnight Thief, here.
I then read Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard. This was the first book I’ve ever read by Dennard, and I was pleasantly surprised! I don’t usually read Historical Fiction mainly because of how they treated women back then. Anyway, I was surprised by how the main character’s spunk. She stands up for herself and takes no shit!! You can read my review, here.
I read The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater, and haven’t reviewed this book yet. I’m pretty sure I’m still processing everything.
I also read The Rules by Nancy Holder & Debbie Viguié. I had a lot of hope for this novel. What I had hoped versus what actually happened just made my hopes fall flat. You can read my review of The Rules, here.
I then read Haunted by Lynn Carthage. I don’t really know what to think of the story to be honest. While I liked it, nothing really stood out for me, and when I got to the end there was just a sense of foreboding. I see in my mind what can happen and I am intrigued as to what actually happens… You can read my review of Haunted, here.
I also read Inherit Midnight by Kate Kae Meyers. I really enjoyed reading this book! Which surprised me because I lowered my expectations of this book before reading it. I like the adventure that takes us all over the world. I like the little bits of history that I learned. I have no idea if it’s accurate or not, but I enjoyed learning about it at least. I like that the MC stuck up for herself. You can read my review of Inherit Midnight, here.
On the last day of January 2016, I’ve managed to read another book! I read Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge. Crimson Bound is a dark take on the Little Red Riding Hood tale. I haven’t got clear thoughts on this book yet, so no review as of now.. I will say though that I enjoyed this retelling. I liked the dark aspects, and the honesty of the main character. There are a few things that bothered me though. I’ll save those thoughts for the review! You’ll have to stay tuned! *winky face*
The ARC that I was allowed access to is called The Girl in the Well Is Me by Karen Rivers. My understanding of the book is that the main character is bullied. That’s all I really know about it. I want to go into this book not knowing what will happen. The cover is so pretty though!!!
I also bought 5 books this month! I bought Passenger by Alexandra Bracken, which I haven’t read yet, but am looking forward to. I just bought Night Study by Maria V. Snyder for myself and my sister, since she loves the Study series. The other three books I bought, I’ve previously read. They’ve hit me in some way, and I had to have them. Even if it did take me a few years to procure them. I bought And We Stay by Jenny Hubbard, Far From You by Tess Sharpe, and The Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black! I love all three of these books, I’m taking a minute to appreciate the fact that I actually recalled from memory the titles and authors of these books… That doesn’t happen everyday, haha.
So I think that’s it for this month! Thanks for sticking with me! 😀
Until next time,
Adele
Oh, I’ve been seeing the cover for The Girl in the Well is Me on Netgalley lately but haven’t looked into what it actually IS–I can’t wait to see what your thoughts on it are! You had an awesome month; happy reading in the near-future! 😀
