‘Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Byx abandons everything she’s ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted caste, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle–a shifting maze of magical rooms–enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex’s secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.’

If you don’t know by now, Cruel Beauty is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. This retelling is so original, its hard to figure out which story came first, haha. Told from the main characters point of view, Nyx, has had a hard life. Being brought up emotionally distant from everyone has made Nyx resent her family and the situation she was raised in. From birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the towns Demon. And from birth, Nyx has been training to kill him.

When time comes around and the day comes where she turns seventeen, that day is also the day that she will be wed to Ignifex, the towns demon. This is the day that Nyx has been training for. With everything that she has been trained with her plan is to: seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse that has been on her people.

Ignifex is not what Nyx thought he would be. He’s far more charming than he should be, and his castle is a never ending labyrinth that is filled with magical rooms.

Even with her plan to save her people, Nyx finds herself drawn to him. Even if there were to be a way that Nyx could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, could Nyx find a way to kill him? With time slipping away, Nyx must decide what is most important to her: the future of the kingdom, or the man she swore to never love.

I really really like this book. In fact, its a new favourite of mine.
I love, love, love this retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Its fresh and Rosamund has successfully retold Belle’s original story, in a totally new way. Cruel Beauty follows the main character of the story, Nyx. And Nyx has only had one true purpose in life. Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the towns all evil-ruler. She has also been training, all her life, to kill him and finally set her town free.

I love this novel, not only because do I connect on a certain level with this character, it brought back my love for Belle’s and now, Nyx’s story as well. I don’t know how to coherently explain my love for this novel. There were so many twists and turns in the story. I love all of the characters. I love the setting. I just really love this book, and suggest that you read it.

If you haven’t already read or check out Cruel Beauty on Goodreads, I would suggest you to do so!!

Thanks for reading! Until next time,
Adele
