Die for Me by Amy Plum | Book Review #15

‘In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.

When Kate Mercier’s parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life– and memories– behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate’s guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he’s a revenant–an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the loves of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.’

I found myself smiling a lot while I was reading this book. Even though I found myself seriously annoyed with some of the characters, and how Plum wrote the book. I also found this book somewhat predictable. Die for Me, does have a good ending though; I will give it that. The ending is a happy one, so anyone who loves happy endings, will probably like this one. For me though, I was hoping for a different type of ending. One that would leave me wondering what happens next. If you’re looking for a stand alone, this could be a good one, even though this book is the first in a saga.

I did find that one of the characters pissed me off. Like, a lot. The character I’m talking about, his name is Vincent. He’s the first guy that Katie has taken a serious attraction too, and frankly, he treats Katie like she’s a child. Katie’s a smart girl, and Vincent, who says that she is his whole world, just treats her like she’s dumb. An imbecile.
Other than that, this was a satisfying read.

Even though Vincent gives me bad vibes, I’m really looking forward to reading the next book Until I Die. I also really like that this book takes place in France, so thats great!!

You can find Die for Me over on GoodReads.

Thanks for reading. Until next time,
Adele.
