Anything Could Happen by Will Walton | Book Review #8

‘When you’re in love with the wrong person for the right reasons, anything could happen.

Tretch lives in a very small town where everybody’s in everybody else’s business. Which makes it hard for him to be in love with his straight best friend. For his part, Matt is completely oblivious to the way Tretch feels — and Tretch can’t tell whether that makes it better or worse.

The problem with living a lie is that the lie can slowly become your life. For Tretch, the problem isn’t just with Matt. His family has no idea who he really is and what he’s really thinking. The girl at the local bookstore has no clue how off-base her crush on him is. And the guy at school who’s a thorn in Tretch’s side doesn’t realize how close to the truth he’s hitting.

Tretch has spent a lot of time dancing alone in his room, but now he’s got to step outside his comfort zone and into the wider world. Because like love, a true self can rarely be contained.’

I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this book.

The writing in Anything Could Happen is really good, and easy to follow. Which is super nice. When you read this book, you get a sense of who everyone is. Another thing thats nice about this book is that when something comes up, the author also tells some history about what was happening. Anything Could Happen is a super easy read. With the book only being 288 pages, I finished it within 3 hours.

The MC, Tretch, is the the focus of the story, and he is a very emotional character. Its nice and refreshing. Tretch is a very interesting character, and it was very nice to get to know him. Tretch….lives in todays society but he doesnt have the gadgets of today. So while I was reading I had to keep reminding myself that this book takes place in the now. It was great to see Tretch coming out to some of his family and friends.

The feeling I got when I finished Anything Could Happen was that the book is about standing on your own feet. And that first loves are just that- first loves. Standing up to the people who bully you and becoming friends with new people. Anything Could Happen is about family, and more importantly about realizing that in life, anything could happen.

Have you read Anything Could Happen? If not, I would really suggest this book to you! Here is Anything Could Happen on GoodReads.

Thanks for reading. Until next time,
Adele.
